the recent cold spell has inspired me to look into installing a pot belly or wood burning stove in the garage for mid-winter repairs. A buddy of mine said he would let his smaller (now unused) stove go for around $100 which i thought was reasonable. SCORE

But man is the chimney piping expensive!! It would cost more than 4 times more than the damn stove!

guess ill be freezing my tail off all winter

didnt even think about the insurance issues also it appears to be against many many fire codes to have a woodburning stove in an unattached, woodframed garage

I do a lot of winter work in a closed garage myself. It gets pretty cold. Last winter I bought a mountable ceramic heater from sears. I think it was around 75. But I'd sooner trust that and deal with the energy consumption than have a smokey open flame in the room.
