81 XS400 Build

Love it, truck is badass and the bike is looking better,
what do you plan on doing with your seat??

Thanks guys, Not sure on the seat yet. I think I am going to try and reuse the rear fender so until I get that all mocked up I really won't know any dimensions. Prob will not go with a springer seat because I'll still be running rear shocks.

Where did you score the new fuse block. It's small and clean looking. My fusebox was completely ripped out by the PO and he thought wire nuts were fuses.

Haha, ya sometimes you just have to make by with what you have on hand until you can get the right parts. I picked it up from O'rileys. Think it was like $10, plus it gave me an extra slot in case I ever add anything else that needs to be fused. Best part was that I just had to bend the gold bracket over a bit to mount it. Thanks. I was looking online and all the other ones I found had the terminals sticking out the side, which causes clearance issues. This is just the fix I need.

nice dime. i got a 92 that im fixin rust on. then 5 inch drop in the front and prob like 6 or seven in the rear. its yours BD'd? i would assume so. love the paint and grille btw, and its a stepside. dont see many BD'd. or at least i dont

Thanks vol, believe it or no it's not BD'd.......So much work has gone into it to get it that low. SD upper and lowers, notched frame for tie rods and swaybar, tubed firewall, new 7" brake booster, new wilwood clutch master cylinder and so on lol. I'm tuckin 20's up front and laying skid plate. Kinda nerves about the BD cause Ima have to flare the bed to make room for the 20x10's that are tucked in there right now. Pretty sick bike of yours btw, read your entire thread this morning lol. Interested in the future progress!

i really thought it was BD'd god it looks so sick. with all the work gone into it, why BD it? i think it looks good as is. different in a hella good way.
and my bike? join the club lol.

So holy crap it's been a while since I posted..... To be honest I kind of forgot about this thread all together.... Anyways the bike basically sat for 2 years (I know, I know...) but has went under a total transformation over the last couple weeks. I finally got caught up enough to start on it again! I still have some fab work left and to break in the motor, then paint but it's coming along. I won't bore you guys with all the details but feel free to ask any questions!

I had to throw this one in just for kicks!

Digging how minimal your build is. The hard tail especially looks great.

Thanks! I am really going for the "less is more" feel with this bike! I still have to finish the exhaust, build a false oil tank and a few other little things!

So far I've ridden it 50 miles on the dot and all is well! I still have some carb tuning to do but I'm super happy with the outcome so far!

I bought the same fuse box at oriliey`s also.Um I liked the bike in the beginning.I hope don't mind something flying off the rear tire and hitting you in the azz, that feel good:yikes:

Glad that Fuse box worked out for you! It's been about 50/50 as far as the before or after look and I know.... I need to get a rear fender on it haha!

Re-purposed the rear foot pegs! Came out pretty good and I think it will be super comfortable on longer rides!

like the scoot. was wondering did you weld the swingarm at the front to or was it unnecessary

Hey thanks! I did actually. I took out the bushings and replaced the swingarm rod with solid bar stock. I really liked the look with the back so open compared to doing a traditional hardtail. Just to be of the safe side after it was all welded up I braced on the bottom. I had to offset them for the rear brake rod and motor mount.

Thanks for info and pics. Mine gonna go back under the knife after i ride it a while and build up funds for pipe. I used plate in my rear section and lowerd bike at top shock mount. I like that open look to
