:laugh2: well couldn't resist for the price and it had a title so was even better...............not sure what rout I am going but looking forward to tinkering with it this weekend........will see if I can get it to fire off and then go from there. 1980 on the title and haven't even looked it over much......has compression so that's a good thing.

Not sure what I am doing. Was under cover but open to the elements so it has a few issues......going to see if I can get it to fire tonight when I get home. Put a battery in it last night and it turns over.

Came home today and went through the carbs......put it back together and tried to fir it.......well the starter switch was all locked up from rust so opened it up and just wired it all together and sort of got it running.......at least I know the motor sort of works :D now to figure out what way to go.....

I just cant leave anything factory :laugh2:

Is that miss on the motor?

Moss?

Not really its just green :laugh2: it rains here and is moist.........bike was outside under a cover but still in the elements........I asked if it would roll and the guy said sort of........I ended up turning the adjuster on the rear break so it would move. Front brake was locked up so they pulled the caliper off. But for the price I cant complain.......

Still after a 650 or even better a 750 standard.........I did find a 750 standard but the bike is almost a total loss........tank was in great condition and for 125 bucks I just hauled it all home.

Damn autocorrect. Yes, moss.

A friend had an Xs750. Nice bikes but sounds like they can be more of a headache than ours.

Nicely done! I have been looking locally for another myself. Not many around. Good luck!!!

Pete,
Would you be interested in a 1978? Also have a 1977 missing fuel tank and seat/helmet latch. 1978 has title. Hour and a half drive from you! The 1978 has a sidecar mounted to it but that could be removed easy! Might want to put it on an XS650 someday! Has not been run in around a year so might need carb cleaning and tinkering.

Actually it is in the picture over to the left!

Let me think about it for a couple days and I'll try to remember to get back to you.

Ok had a little time today and well................

Its all torn apart and now trying to figure out a direction.......before tearing into it did a compression test and both cylinders were close to 160 or so. probably going to just leave the motor alone but am thinking maybe pull the head off who knows.....what would you do?

Have a few motors now......

Also figured out why the rear brake was sticking......

Woo Hoo........................picked up a set of forks of ebay for 65 shipped  there was zero rust on the chrome......................the ones I have are pitted pretty good so these are sweet!

Hopefully frame and wheels go in Friday for blasting and powder coat..........anyone powder coat the mag wheels ? Not sure if the rubber in the rear will make it through the heat ? anyone know ? otherwise just a blast and will paint like my last set. New bearings waiting from all balls.

I have a plan so hopefully I can get it close.........saw a build years ago on a 360 the I like the looks of.

What compression tester are you using? I bought a cheapo one from Harbor Freight or something a couple years back and I never saw anything over 110lbs..Even when I tested it on my car. My bike idles just fine and seems to have decent power. I did skip out on lapping valves when I had it all apart though and Im not sure how long it sat with a seized engine before I bought it. Do you ever hear any airleaks when you kick it over slowly?

One I picked up off amazon a year or so ago. Works really well and came with a few attachments. Got 140 or so across my 1100 on all 4 so I know it works.
I never really did kick it over slowly so cant help on that one.

I may open it up as I kind of want to look at the inside. May lap the valves who knows.......or may just leave it together. I do want to clean up the motor and powder coat all the covers though. Thought about polishing them but this one is kind of an all black look maybe......

Had to work Friday.............so today got the frame sort of figured out and everything is ready to go to powder coaters on Monday. Had to cut the swingarm out as the bolt was frozen in there........I tried heat and soaked it in PB blaster but no Bueno.........lucky for me I have a few extra parts lying around.

Wanted to take more off the frame but in the end I am going to try and use the factory air boxes and also the factory pipes. May end up with a 2 into 1 but not sure.

Well for all you lurkers ;)

Also opened up my 65 dollar Ebay forks and well progressive springs.....................hell just ordered a set so now have some for my previous build I guess :laugh2:

Man, you just keep falling into good stuff!! LOL! I actually leave my frame slightly longer as it allows a solid mounting area for my seats. I have been looking into the progressive springs myself but I am unsure if I am keeping these two bikes... My original plan was also to use the air boxes and stock exhaust but when cleaning the pipes I found many, many rust holes in the mufflers. I found the option of aftermarket to be more cost efficient as I am not a weld like some are...

although I am trying to get into welding classes locally. I think it is a necessary skill if you want to do this stuff we do.
