I did it again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On the Road...............Sort of......

I did make the pan myself. I used 1/8” plywood and finerglass mat and resin. I used closed cell foam for a kayak seat that ACK sells. Its on the firm side, but my seat is only about 2” thick. Im making another seat and i plan on using the same foam again, but with another layer of soft foam on top. The kayak foam isnt the worst though. People kayak all day and put their himd sides on it..

Thats pretty much what I have some ply and some resin and cloth over it. Am looking only at about 2" or so also so will look for that foam and see what I can find.

Thanks for the info!

Check your local stores for a Gardner's kneeling pad. They can be found in a size that might be perfect as a seat pad. I have been playing with a seat build myself. I have to use this fiberglass somehow

One idea for foam would be to visit a junk yard for cars and see if you can find something out of a car with a damaged seat they might let you have it for next to nothing. Never tried it but have heard that an electric carving knife works good for shaping foam, just do it while wife is out shopping!!

I have an electric knife hanging in my work area. Spectra, didn't you keep any of the old seats? I actually saved an extra pad for if I wanted to lower the seat height. I have already chopped on it though. I might have another around here from a1980...but I am not certain.

No stupid me tossed it as I bought a pre manufactured seat for my other build. Then this one decided to go my own rout as the upholstery guy said the foam he has wont last long on a bike.........only good on cars I guess.........Hell I had a few of them and got tired of moving them around........I cleaned everything out a month or so ago as I was tired of the mess.......oh well I cant be a hoarder :D

What I have seen others use is sections of gym mats. If you could find a small recreational mat like that it would be dense enough so it would hold up well. Hell, just go to the local high school and cut a hunk out of the wrestling mats, they will understand!

Well pretty much street legal now.................new shoes and wow the rear is so much smaller.........rear used to sit maybe a 1/4" off the ground on the center stand and now its 2" or so......I do like the tires I am sure they will work much better......picked up some cheap mirrors and mounted them also added the plate. Only missing a light on the plate but I can deal with that not planning any night riding at this time.......

If the weather stays good will get it out for a little bit this weekend hopefully...........

Still need a seat and heading to an upholstery shop on friday..............

So seat was picked up today and love it...................but the color not sure of.........re adjusted the valves......pulled the carbs and re set the float height......no gas leaks so far.......synced the carbs with a gauge still no manometer.......runs great now if the rain would go away I could go for a ride......

Needs more brown now........................hate to say it but I should have went black...........I guess thats what I get listening to the wife :laugh2:

Thanks! maybe it will grow on me will see. I may get some brown grips but not sure yet.
Yes, I would that. Maybe incorporating the orange color into stripes in the seat/fender. Or stripes the same color as the seat on the tank

Well the seat is done and almost did orange thread but went with another color.

As for orange on the fender maybe as it needs a re do some time in the future.......the paint is not gas proof and had a few drips on it that are under the seat.......want to get it done in a automotive grade and clear it so it can take a beating.......

Hell now that its pretty much done I may just put it up for sale there are enough hipsters here in the NW who would pay good money for it I am sure :laugh2: I seem to like building them more than riding.........to many idiots out on the road........

Not the tank the rear fender/pan combo.......the paint is a SEM product but doesnt like fuel very much.......
I feel your pain, i spilled on my white and orange, a big one due to cracked funnel, it ate right through it. My red one had one drip right in the middle of the tank top. I cleaned it off immediately but not before the damage was done. After it penetrated the clear it started to spread through the color coat, leaving a big ugly spot. Very frustrating couple of weeks
