The pickup coils are way out of spec on my 1983 XS400K and I am having a hard time finding OEM part numbers or aftermarket options, can anybody point me in the right direction?
I used pickup coils from an 84 FJ600 on my 82 400j. Yamaha Radian YX600 or XJ pickups should also work. look on E-bay at the pictures of Yamaha coils of about the same year as your bike. Yamaha used the same pickup coils on many of their bikes. Just the plate they are mounted to may be different so they have different part numbers.
As long as they look identical and read the correct resistance they should work.
Thanks for the help, nobody had them in stock for less than $400 so i grabbed a set off ebay for an '04 R1 that looked similar and I just swapped the mounts and after a little splicing they work fine. It didn't solve my ultimate issue of power loss at 4500RPM though.
Yeah this is the same bike, and it sat for about 5 seconds lmao, I rode her home and to work the next day and every day since then.
I plan on cleaning them tonight and maybe I'll sync them if I can find some clear tubing and I'll sync them up because I've never done that. I should note that I don't run filters because my airbox doesn't stay on and the stock filter I had fell out on a ride so I wouldn't be surprised to find it's just clogged, I'm thinking about rigging up a microfiber cloth as a makeshift filter for now.
Welp, she's my only ride so microfiber it is until I can get some filters, I've been filter-less for a few months now so I guess I'll need to douse my valves with intake cleaner
