Have you decided which style of plates you're gonna get from Trav yet?....or is it "Top Secret"? hahaha, just f**king with ya! I got the more "curvy" ones...they are the far right ones in the picture of the three styles that he has. I'm running the 20MM axle slots though (17MM is stock), since I'm running an XS650 rear wheel. Ordered them with the fender mount tabs....just in case I decide to run a rear fender again.

Travis is dropping all of it off at UPS this morning...I can't wait for it to get here!!

I'd like to let EVERYONE know that working with Travis is a DREAM!! He is the coolest guy you'll meet, and really puts forth the extra effort in a transaction! He even did research to make sure that I got exactly what I needed and offered to take back anything that doesn't work to replace it will what will! You won't find a better seller!

Guess who just ordered a universal hardtail kit from Travis!!!! WOO HOO!!! I think I may even have a guy that is gonna TIG weld it for me cheap!

cool, wanna see how its looks. but just curious, why do you wanna change how you have the frame now? it looks good, i dont see why you'd wanna change it

the plates dont line up. look at the picture of his bare frame. im sure there are other reasons, but i wouldnt be the one to ask lol. and yeah, im going with the far left. the sexy ones are too sexy for my first build. lol maybe the next one. and now that i know i need a sissy bar im deffinatly gettin those fender tabs, and i havent ordered anything from him yet but just in the messages, i can tell that he knows what hes doing. super easy to deal with, great customer service. its almost like your talking to the guy in charge! lol

Yeah, it's almost like this is Travis' site or something....lol

I picked the "sexy" plates because they're different than most you see. I think it's gonna look sweet!

The axle plates don't line up, as Volcom mentioned. Also, the bottom rails of the current set-up weren't bent correctly....they were just kinked and then filled with body filler to hide them!!! I know, horrible work right?...good thing it wasn't my work, and it's getting fixed!! Not to mention that the hardtail is made out of gas pipe!!! GOODNESS!!! I can't even believe that it held up to my abuse like that last summer! I guess that's what you get for having your drunk buddy work on your bike while you're working!

You can see all the problems with my current hardtail if you look closely at the pics in this thread.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I appreciate it! I also appreciate your support of the site with buying my products.

I've gotten a little polishing finished on the engine. I had to strip the paint from the left side cover beforehand. So far, I have the left side cover, the rocker cover, the contact breaker cover, and one of the valve adjustment caps done. I still want to strip the paint from the right side cover and polish it, along with rest of the valve caps. The block and jugs will be painted with engine paint....satin black. I plan to polish the edges of the jug fins after that as well. The carbs are already painted, and the tops and bottoms are polished.

I gave up on my "ghetto engine stand" this morning. lol I have had the engine sitting on two concrete blocks since I took it out of the frame! It's just too much of a pain in the a$$ to have to bend down to work on it while it's on the floor, and it won't sit level on the workbench, so I set out to change that. I stopped by Tractor Supply and picked up a 4' x 1 1/2" piece of flat steel and made a quick set of engine stands. It cost me $8 and some change total. Now I can put the motor on the workbench.

Anyways....on with the pics!

I want to clean the engine so the paint will stick, but I'm sort of lost on how to go about doing that. I thought about temporarily bolting the exhaust and carbs on the keep water out, then throwing the whole thing in the bed of the truck, then taking it to the car wash with a can of two of engine degreaser.

Do you guys see any problem with that? I don't think water will get in the motor, but hell, I'm not sure! lol I plan to change the oil before running it again by the way...

If you do that, I would block the intakes with something other than the carbs. I would also make sure to flush the lower end of the engine with Kerosene or parts cleaner and fog the cylinders when you're done, just to be safe.

Do you have another way you can suggest to clean it? It's pretty bad, as you can tell from the pics.

i used 10mm marine ply i had hanging around. Used that for exhaust and inlets. Just cut using a jigsaw around a paper template!

looks ok so far

I like the stands!
Simple yet effective.

Have you considered the rusty bolts? I have some too, but not sure how to go about them.
I remember seeing a list of them on an ebay auction, but I didn't bookmark it. :( Would be neat to just buy new fresh ones, but then again, every little penny counts.

Yeah, I'm not sure what to do about the bolts. I may just sand the rust off and wipe them with WD-40 for now. Someday I will buy all stainless. I just want to get this thing on the road!! haha
