OK, went and picked up my new to me xs400 yesterday morning, and started on the build today. Theme is leaning towards street tracker, but probably a bit of cafe and brat thrown in there as well.

Tail section is from a KZ400, I'll probably change the cafe bars to superbike bars.

The XS650 tank is just for mockup as I have an xs360 tank on the way from 2eightcustoms. I told my girlfriend this is for her, and she wants to be able to ride 2 up so I'm going to make the tail section removable and the seat will just extend underneath it. I'd like to put an 18" rear wheel on it eventually, but this is a budget build with a target price of about $1000 all in. Motor will remail stock right now until it is back together and solid, but I'll probably eventually put on some cocktail shakers I have lying around, or a high mount scrambler type exhaust, or maybe high mount the shakers, and some big offroad airfilters and clean up the airbox/ battery area so I can run sans side covers. Color is yet to be determined as the woman requested a say, if we break up I can always repaint it!:D j/k Booboo!

I currently need a CDI cover and a steering stem bolt, along with the 18" rear stuff, so please PM me if you have any of this stuff laying around.

Also, if anyone has ideas about shorter clutch, brake, and throttle cables I'm all ears!

Cheers,
jon

Looking good already man! I like the seat idea...seen sort of the same thing on the KZ forums awhile back. The high mount pipes would look pretty sweet in my opinion.

my dad had 2 H2 triples. on is now the greatest example of a 1972 H2 triple in all of europe. its been in like magazines and stuff. so i gotta get one too. lol its in the blood

3/4" tube with solid rod gussets. I'll probably kick it up a bit as well. Like my dad always used to say: "It's like eating an elephant son: a couple of bites a day and you'll be done eventually..."

Aren't we picky:wink2:! Pretty much "roughed in" means I'm not done yet but yeah not 100% symmetrical, really close though. If anyone notices when I'm done I'll probably have to kick them in the nuts...or labia...thanks for the feedback though.

Maybe the welding tank I bent it on was "out of round" :D

as long as it looks good no worries
its gonna be covered by the tail section and seat anyway right?
lol

I think with kicking it up a few degrees and final adjustments it will be "good enough for the chicks I date". It will be visible when riding 2 up, but yeah, covered by the tail section otherwise.
