Another New Guy and Simplex/Boardtrack Project

Looking forward to it Travis.
Thanks Lucho, yours is coming along really well and will be Awesome when it is done.
Pork Chop-I was really proud of the exhaust, I thought it was cool and understated, sweeping with the frame and belled at the end. YOu are the first to ever comment on it, thanks!!!

Awesome job Daddio. From colour choice to frame design, everything flows like its suppose to. And you really make it look easy, great craftsmanship. One of the best XS400s.
Cheers

Turned out so cool daddio.

Keeps coming back to the video of your front brake mechanism, going to do something similiar on my bike. Great stuff. :)

Johicos - A lot of credit goes to my friend Lou who encouraged me. The design is pretty much pirated from all the old bikes from the '30 -'50's but thanks!!

Isigt- I thought the brake system really cleaned up the bars, but be careful and have as little fittings as possible, mine was tough to get sealed up. Thanks again.

Neophite- I used to go to a lot of bike nights, not so much recently, I guess I should grab a copy of Quick Throttle and see what's happening. Where do you go?

Tubesteak- Your bike is awesome, but you know that!!! I dig the front end with the headlight, with that front end being black it almost looks vintage on that bike.
I always appreciate bikes that are made with sweat and passion. Anyone can go to a dealer and buy a bike and bolt on a lot of stuff, when people like you have a vision and capture it, that is cool.

So I found out even though I had an 1/8 of a tank of gas in my left tank (Right tank is still dry as I have been just riding around town) the fuel will not reach the carbs, but will stay in the tank.
There I am, stuck on a canyon road, no cell reception and I am looking at releasing my tank and holding it between my legs and tucked into my jacket to get me to a gas station, just then a guy in a Dodge Dakota and a enclosed trailer pulls up. He asks if I need a lift. I was shocked and said that would be awesome.
He introduces himself as Dogbite. We open his trailer and he has two dirt bikes, we strap them against one wall so we can strap mine in as well.
We get in the truck and turn around and head to town which is maybe 10 miles.
He tells me he is a repo man and that he has had issues with that law that is how he got his name and he pulls up his sleeve to show a mangled arm. Dogbite flatly says "Police dog". I looked at the long ago healed carnage and said "Broke your Radius and ulna?" He took his eyes off the road for a second and looked at me, blinked and looked back at the road and said "I guess so, I know that dog broke both of these." pointing at his forearm. I asked "What did the Police do?" He said, "Booked me for transportation of drugs, but they weren't mine, they were a friends...I shouldn't have ran."
I nodded "Just one of those moments, we would like a second swing at."
Dogbite smiled "Life is better now, I love repoing cars and I get to make my own hours." We talked about the restoration and rehab of his arm, women, bikes and work.
Pulled into a gas station and I offered him money, but Dogbite just smiled "I would just like to see that thing start up."
I filled her up with gas (both tanks) and kicked her over. He smiled and I looked at him and said "Be careful you're slowly changing your image."
Dogbite smiled and said "I have a lot of catching up to do."
I thanked him and he was on his way.
Moral of the story: If you put your petcock out of the side of the tank, don't let it get below 1/4.

:yikes: That is crazy!!! It is cold and cloudy, track temperature is frigid and those guys are literally flying!!! I have to read up on that race. I have followed Isle of Man a little just because of the history and danger of the event. Now there is a new one to research.

How many guys did you roll with and how far to get to the race?

Those are great times!

went with friend Mike on his cb750 and his friend on a 750VFR. I did a write up on the yam forum. I'll find it and post, great times.

My friend was racing that day (lives in bushmills, the whiskey town) he even overtook Bruce Anstey there (he's mad) The year before Robert Dunlop unfortunatly died there. The guy's reckoned that when he swapped over the lever controls because his hand was damaged, he applied the brake instead of the clutch!

there is a faster circuit, Ulster 100 and another "circuit" local called Armoy road race, just small country roads, bumpy as hell. Coyles took Mike and myself round in a transit van doing 80mph. he said there was this spot where he does 160mph and lands 1000 yards away ( as he was saying this we launched off in the van, scattering some hikers previously hidden by the hill) my fingers were dug into the dash board like that John Candy movie!

I was literally laughing out loud as I read your story.
I think Coyles would be a blast in Baja!!!
So guys out there are plain insane, I can't tell you how many times I have thought "Well..this is it!!!"
I can't wait to read the full report and look up those races.

Actually I havnt been to a single one. I met a cafe racer guy and he said Huntington Burgers in HB has a bike night on some occasions. I will ask around and maybe check it out. Happy Holidays Daddio
