Restarted Project

Hey Irish, thanks for the kind words.

I have been doing alot of work with the wire wheel cleaning parts, removing rust and paint. Its pretty slow-going but with a bit of luck, the bike should be rolling next weekend.

Cheers. :bike:

I have made a bit more progress on the bike.

I installed fork gaitors for a Norton Commando. They were a bit tight around the bottom fork leg but I warmed them with my wifes hair drier and that soften them up and on they went.

Thats looking awsome mate, im excited to see this getting near finished:thumbsup: Gives me some more motivation to keep going with mine  Nah its just too cold atm for me to put any decent hours into mine...I didnt loose interest, really I didnt....

Thanks Greasey. I really want to go for a ride and this is my only bike so I am pretty motivated to finish. It is now pissing down outside so I had to put a hold on the work for the night but hopefully I can get the swingarm and rear wheel on tomorrow.

I had a sit on it and the tracker bars are much more comfortable than the clubmans. I also made brmmm brmmm noises and it was almost as good as the real thing. really

I discovered that something has been living under the tunnel of my fuel tank in my bike parts cupboard.! :wtf: What ever it is it hasn't heard the saying "don't shit where you sleep" as there is piss and shit everywhere - even in my welding mask! From what I can tell, it likes to eat snails and plastic cases that hold power tools. I hope it is a possum and not a water rat as those things are mean.

Hey AMR, thanks. I wish I had a workshop like yours, I spend half my time packing and unpack my bike cupboard to work on stuff.

I can just smell that paint drying.

PG1 paint had a "distinct" aroma and it was a regular sniffage in the drewpy household! (sniffage is a made up word)

Hi AMR, according to the side of the can, VHT paint needs to be baked at 93c for half an hour for it to cure properly and be chemical and heat resistant. I waited a few days after painting so it could off-gas a bit and not stink up the house.

***Disclaimer***
This is the first time i have used VHT paint or built a bike for that matter so I followed the instructions and hoped for the best but expect a complete disaster.

I made some more progress today on the XS.

Assembled rear drum brake with new ebc shoes.
Installed rear wheel bearings (and I remembered the spacer too!)
Mounted swing arm and rear shocks
Assembled rear wheel and installed on swing arm.

Here is a pic of how it stands now.

I can now only just pick up the rear and "wheel barrow" the bike around. If I install 1 more thing and it will be too heavy but that doesn't matter as I can now roll this baby around on her own wheels! :bike:

Ah man you must be getting excited!

Btw, how fine was the blasting medium when he did your wheels was it fine or medium? Look great...

I requested a "just out of the cast" finnish from my vapour blaster guy so I think it was middle of the road grit. I was going to paint the wheels after blasting but I liked the finnish so I left them. When I picked up my side covers from the blaster I told him that I wasn't going to paint the wheels and he replied by saying he wanted to blast them again to "bling" them up but I had already mounted the tyres.
