Here we go again its winter time usualy gas prices are at there lowest price less demand right.Well I guess theres tension on the stock market again over N Korea conducting their 3rd nuclear test yesterday.Whatever the excuse is this time fuel is taking a bigger piece of pie out of my limited budget.Im considering buying a heated suit so that i can ride my bike just save gas.My truck gets 20mpg expressway driving on its good days but averages about 18mpg.City I get around 11-12 mpg.I cant afford a more fuel efficient vehicle but I have do something.I usualy allocate about $75 a month out of my budget for fuel cost but now with the current fuel prices it just went to $100.Last month I filled up for $3.12 and filled my tank for $60 which lasted me all month with 1/4 tank to spare.I didnt go anywhere but just local driving that I have to do.Somebody needs to step in and impliment gas price control so we can stop getting the nozzle shoved up our azzes when we fill up.

I know you Ukers buy gas by the liter so it probaly cost 3 times as much as what I pay.I live across the border from canada and the canadians come over here to buy gas.

Filling up the pipe right to the cap is always the last thing we do before coming back across the border. If my wife would allow it, I would bring a couple of full 20L gerry-cans in the trunk.
The difference is all taxes. We pay more for our own oil than you guys do - but we don't have any health-care premiums to pay for so, unless you and all your family members never get sick it kind of evens out.

This couldnt have happened at a worse time,I was planning on a trip to go steelheading,Now cause of the increase in price of of fuel I cant afford to go.From what the ex spurts are saying fuel prices arent going down anytime soon.Hello people this is going to slow down the supposed rebound in our economy.People cut back in spending when we have to pay more at the pimp.People cant afford recreation, food and textiles cost go up also. This is the Governments way of to force people to buy newer cars that get better fuel milege.Go buy a Chevy volt for $40k then you dont have to wory so much about how much gas cost but your in debt for 5 years up to $*&%*%.I`ll be glad when i can ride my bike again.**(&(&*( the gas stations.US Americans need to protest and send the oil companies greed a message.

just be careful of using any gasoline that has ethanol. It will do harm to your carburetors jets and passages. Use leaded regular gasoline and a petroleum based octane boost Regular leaded generally costs less and the octane gives you the boost for better performance.

We have been paying $1.38 a litre ($5.25 US gallon) here in Yellowknife since the gas jumped over a year ago, and the price never dropped at all. Yellowknife is maybe 500 miles or so from the big oil sands Ft. MacMurray, Alberta. Everyone here is pissed at how he are getting hosed.

Well heres the propaganda I heard on Tv today,Oil refineries are doing maintanance at some refineries.the economy is doing so well demand is up and everyone is buying more gas.The price per barrel of crude has jumped up substancialy and nobody knows why?Personaly I think it was the meotior that fell out of the sky and landed over Russia but its just a cover up for Alein ship exploding, and before that N korea scared everyone by conducting their most powerful but smallest nuclear bomb yet

Prices here went from $1.24 per liter Sunday morning to over $1.30 per liter Sunday evening. There's no reason for this other than greed. Every station in town is within a tenth of a cent per liter, but they ins=is there is no collusion. Ya right, I was born yesterday too.

All gasoline has ethanol these days. Difference is in how much of it, and whether they tell you about it on the label.

Ethanol primarily will harm old gaskets. Also, it traps water, which might corrode stuff. It will not eat metal directly.

US has been phasing out leaded gas since 1973 and banned it completely for on-road use in 1996. I don't know that you can even get it at all outside of aviation.

Our engines don't require leaded gas, and I'm pretty sure don't require high octane.

You can buy ethanol free gas. Usually it's at a marina, but here, they sell some at a local Gate station. Costs about 30 cents more a gallon.

This is just our governments way into getting people to buy more effcient motorcyles LOL.Obviously the oil lobbiest have bought into Obamas wallet.

... Obviously the oil lobbiest have bought into Obamas wallet.
Not so obvious.
I'm not much of an Obama fan myself, but it's interesting where much of this nonsense actually started. Pres. Bush had his administration spend $12 billion on R&D for ethanol.
(Source article)

That's not to mention the billions of dollars he secured for farm subsidies to corn growers. All in response to the Republican corn growers lobby that pushed for ethanol on behalf of farmers.

Thats an interesting article Lou but theres also a big debate on wether we should use a food source to use as alternitive fuel.Especialy now since most of our grain belt in the US is in extreme droubt.Since oil prices have spiked to record highs theres been a few jokes with Bushes pic and sigline saying miss me yet? What gets me the oil prices have surges cause of the people who have stakes in the oil market on Wall Street.Speculation, fear and uncertanity all have made these oil shares jump in prices. It has nothing to do with our supply of oil cause we have billions of gallons stored in our reserves. Its all a bunch of BS especialy the prapaganda the news media feed the american public. They give everybody all these excuses on why petrol prices are rising but its all politics nothing else.:banghead:
Another thing I wasnt aware of and learned sine i brought up this topic that they use forms of alcohol to raise octane levels.

Eh, that's a bit much. Yes, oil prices are built on speculation, but that speculation is tied to actual valid reasoning. It's not like guys on Wall St are saying "William...I need a new wet bar in the receiving room. Let's inflate the prices on oil so I can pay for it." If oil refineries have to shut down, oil prices go up. If something causes the shipping rates for barrels to go up, oil prices go up. It's actually pretty straight forward.

1982400 xs: I couldn't agree more.
I worry about using fertilizer (made from oil) to raise corn to produce ethanol to replace oil. I have read studies which point out that more energy from oil is used up during the above noted "production" cycle than comes out of the tank when you burn the ethanol. And that's not counting the long term cost of soil depletion to grow all that subsidized corn.

Ethanol is the cheapest way to raise octane ratings though, so you can see why they like it. As long as you burn it quickly in a modern engine designed for the purpose, it works fine, engine doesn't ping and doesn't get damaged. But if you let it sit in the tank long enough to separate, there is big trouble.
Luckily, we can still buy ethanol-free gas at some major outlets here. In order to offer me 91 octane with NO ethanol, however, they have to stiff the 87 octane buyer with a higher % of ethanol in order - thus maintaining the mandated overall percentage.

Today gasoline was down at $ 2,27 a liter at the gasstation next to me..... that's cheap in Denmark

Well heres the one excuse that gets me,They say that some of the refineries had to shut down because of maintance. You would think that they would have filled up the storage tanks before hand. Its Bull Shit and im not buying this for second.Maybe the rest of the american public is nieve enough to accept this but not me.Another thing they said today is that Iranian exported oil shipments have been cutback.WTF get the hell out of opec and tell the arabs to take their oil and shove it in a sand pile.We dont need their fricken oil anyways we have enough of our own that we produce.Yes these speculators raise the shares on purpose so they can get rich. They dont give a crap about how much oil prices go up they can afford it.Another thing a big spike in oil prices is the last thing the economy needs.People being interveiwed have and are already saying we have to make cutbacks in spending from other parts of their budget including food.Their pay checks dont offset the high cost of gas for those who have long commutes to work either.People need to realy get serious and boycott buying gas and filling their tanks for a couple of days per month to show that enough is enough but they dont have the balls to do it.In most places theres a public transportation system but people are lazy its too dam easy to shove the nozzle down the gas spout to thier tanks.
