Just when I thought I was done... smokin'

One thing I thought about was maybe there is a bit of water in the engine burning off. It had been sitting for a few years before I installed it. Guess I will check the color of my oil?

Thanks Spectra, no oil leak that I can see or find?

Just when I thought I was done... smokin'

1.5 years in the making. Got it insured today, starts and runs great. Went for about a 30 minute ride and when I got back home she started smoking from the left side. Smoke looks pretty much white, doesn't really smell like anything. Oil has been changed, No flat spots or exhaust leaks that I...

Where did you buy your time machine from? That’s pretty much the cleanest XS400 I’ve ever seen. Very nice.

    Clamp and Size check.

So if I am to go with Emgos, the longer tapered ones would be better than the shorties by the sounds of it. I stumbled across these on Amazon, I like the looks of them and they come with all the mounting hardware...

    Clamp and Size check.

Thanks Mike, maybe I will reavaluate this setup then. I might be able to find some used Oem ones at the salvage yard. Just finding any in usable shape can be a chore. Are there any other aftermarket exhaust other than the Emgos I could look into?

    Clamp and Size check.

I'm thinking maybe these Cobra clamps. They say 1.56 min to 1.70 max diameter. https://fortnine.ca/en/cobra-stainless-t-bolt-clamps

    Clamp and Size check.

Hi Guys. I have stock Headers, 1.5" and ordering a set of Emgo Shorties that have both 1.5" and 1.75" ends. I am wondering what size clamp to use? I saw on the forum that the Harley clamps come recommended but I need to know what size to get. Like will a 1.5" clamp be too small as it needs to...

Conundrum # 62: Throttle sticking but not Stuck?

Thanks Jeff. I forgot to mention that I checked for leaks around the boots, etc by spraying Carb cleaner and nothing, so it must be the Carb as you have suggested. Looks like I'll be taking it out again. Maybe I'll try the idle/mixture screws before that. I set them out 3 turns from bottom...

What am I missing... ( Another Spark thread w Video)

Thank-you Gentlemen. We have success! It turned out to be the kickstand safety. I bypassed it and now we have spark on both sides and it runs with one caveat. See below. http://www.xs400.com/threads/conundrum-62-throttle-sticking-but-not-stuck.17420/

Conundrum # 62: Throttle sticking but not Stuck?

My throttle cable returns and doesn't stick but the revs stay high. From reading I suspect my carbs are not synced/balanced properly or the like? If I turn the bike off and start it again, the idle is normal again. Here is video of the issue.

What am I missing... ( Another Spark thread w Video)

Hi Guys, Here is the breakdown thus far. Not getting any spark on both sides. 1. 82 XS400 DOHC. 2. Coil checks out. Primary: 3.2 and Secondary: 8.4 @ the Plug wire. 3. Brand new Battery, fully charged. 4. New Plugs ( NGK D8EA) 5. Fuses all good. 6. All lights work.

    Wanted - 2-into-1 Mac Exhaust. 82 XS400 DOHC.

I know its a bit of a long shot but I’m hoping someone might have a decent used Mac exhaust for my 82 XS400, DOHC. I can’t afford to buy a new one at this time. I’m in Victoria, BC Canada. PM me with a ballpark price with shipping. Cheers!

Mac exhaust + Stock airbox: Jet Check

Apparently both sides are 127.5 Jets. I called my Yamaha dealer and they confirmed for this year. This doesn't mean it will work proficiently with new pipes, there may be some trial and error. From what I have read some guys are using different size jets when running aftermarket pipes and pods...
