What should I do with my XS400-2E?

thanks bc. and yea the seating was what initally drew me to the older styled bikes but now my tastes are changing. and the shortest we ride now is 10-15 minute trips but would like to go on longer rides. thanks for the pricing info. I was afraid of that. I was hoping for around 2, but I dont...

What should I do with my XS400-2E?

it's mainly the sissy bar issue and I'm not feeling the upright stance anymore. I feel like I am sitting up real high like I'm riding a scooter or bicycle. as of right now I'm leaning toward selling it. and on that note, anybody have pricing suggestions? according to nada, in excellent...

What should I do with my XS400-2E?

Hey! I keep bugging my wife to learn to ride but that probably wont happen, especially enough to go on trips with two bikes. Also, financially, we do not want two bikes. But that would definitely be the easiest solution! And you are right I'm afraid I will regret chopping my bike up...

What should I do with my XS400-2E?

I am at a point where I am wanting/needing something different out of my bike. My wife wants to ride more and so a slightly bigger/more comfortable bike would be nice. However, I also have a lot into my XS400 and am considering modding it to suit my needs/wants. So far, I have about 3k in my...

    tickticktickticktick

I am by no means an expert but if its from the top of the engine(where the cam and valves would be) then it might be just a valve adjustment. I recently read something on it and that seems to be the symptom and the fix. and if not, at least you know your valves are adjusted. It took less than...

    Perfect carb tune

I have been working on getting my carbs tuned for a while now and I cant seem to get it right. I have also been reading all I can on this site and others. Found some useful stuff but I still am at a loss so I am going to explain the problems I am having and see what your expert opinions are...

    What if I told you...

I'd like to hear more on this topic as I am in the same boat. I have a 78 2E and nothing is wrong with the frame but I am wanting a certain style that would require some chopping of the frame. Anybody have a pros and cons list or experience to share with those of us at this crossroads?

    '81 Budget Build

I like the idea of using that empty space for something but the tools seem like they would rattle and be slightly annoying on a ride. just my two cents. might not even be able to hear it over the engine though. If it didnt get too warm, electrical hiding place would be cool. digging the bike and...

Thats kind of what I was thinking but I've been known to assume before and end up making mistakes. Thanks for clearing that up for me!

    Perfect carb tune

When you guys are talking about the needle and adjusting it, what is top? the blunt wide end? my needle has 5 positions, and the clip is on the middle, so thats 3 either way but I am confused as to which is "up" and which is "down" and which makes it leaner/richer. thanks for any help on the...

Does nobody make any cool bikes anymore?

I agree with BC. I started on a 250 Rebel and although I loved learning on it, it was a bit small. I am very content (once the kinks are worked out) with my XS400. It seems to be a good size for fuel economy, weight(im a small guy) and still keep up with larger bikes on longer rides.

What did you do with your XS today?

I got mine running! Hadn't ran since last fall. Since then ive changed gaskets in top end and replaced contact breaker points. Last night we set the gaps on the contact breakers and set the timing. Today I adjusted the valves and kicked it over til it started. Happy moment right there! Excited...
