    For Sale - 81 XS400HS for sale

I'm selling my 81 XS400HS to make room for another bike. The 81 has 9000 original miles on her and she's now in great all original shape. She was given to me about a year and a half ago by my son in law's father. He had it stored in a shed and it hadn't been ridden or started since 85 when he...

    Flasher Relay Location

I gave you bad info last time, the relay is under the tank just forward of the hold down bolt. So the tank needs to come off. Sorry, I don't know what the hell I was thinking.:banghead:

Under the seat in front of the battery. It's held in by a rubber strap.

    lean condition opinion

I'm running stock actual Mikuni jets in my 81 XS400HS , 135 mains and 42.5 pilots. The air mixture screws are both out at three turns from seated. The bike is running good but I want to make sure I'm not running too lean and potentially hurting the engine. Here's pictures of the plugs (right...

    Gas leaking from air filter

So, on a non vacuum petcock, if fuel is dumping out the filter when the petcock is on, it's a float issue that needs to be fixed , correct? tia

    Gas leaking from air filter

Reading this has me a little confused. In regards to a non vacuum type, why would the petcock cause an issue with the gas flooding out the filter? Isn't the petcock just on or off (or reserve). I have an aftermarket non vacuum type, it doesn't sense when the bowl is full does it?

    Gas leaking from air filter

I was just going to post the same question. Upon turning on the fuel petcock, fuel started dripping out of the intake area of the left side air filter box. This happened a couple of times but not every time it was turned on. I tapped the carb bowl with the butt of a screwdriver and it stopped...

Clutch and front brake adjustment questions

Thanks for the reply Chris. Any particular brand of hose you recommend?

Clutch and front brake adjustment questions

Two issues/questions about my 81 special 1- my clutch engages too far out on the lever for my liking. It doesn't engage until almost fully out and I'd like for it to engage at about the halfway point. I adjusted it according to the manual and by instructions here, both at the lever and on the...

    Finally done!

This weekend I finally completed the restoration of my 81 XS400HS. The bike was given to me by my Son in laws Father who hadn't ridden it since around 1986. It was sitting in a shed since then rusting away and covered in paint splatter. I spent months cleaning out the rust and gunk from the gas...
