What did you do with your XS today?

got my output seal fitted today and no more leaks :bike:

you have to be careful and not pickup the thin outer rubber around the steel carcass.

took me a few goes to get it right, use feelers to help pull the rubber into the output hole

Yesterday I was taking my valve cover caps off to square up the corners from being stripped from my wrench. One was extremely tight and as I was taking it off it broke.Luckily I got the threaded part out very easy and noticed a small piece that had broken off siting on top of the rocker arm.I was able to pluck it out pretty easily with a pair of needle nose pliars

Procured a yoshi pipe!

Also I have the bike now down to the frame and will be shaving tabs. Pics coming soon to the build page. insight on tab shaving accepted.

Decided I wanted the additional range of the standard tank and installed the original back on the bike. Even got Donna to pose on it.

As per request of V.Dave, I have done the Idle screw, Balancing, and the pilot screw. Seems I should be there. Funny thing, you get done, and then you put the tank on,and take it for a spin, and it sounds Lean, some backfiring, then you look at the intake, and you realize ohhh its my fault for not putting the fuel petcock vacuum line back on. Doh

Write up for the LED/autocancel is coming, I just need to make sure the cancel is working.

made my seat. not too shabby for a first shot. will probably redo it at a later date, but hey, that's what these bikes are...the never-ending project. ...also got the dual disc setup finished a little while ago.

put on the rear grip bolt covering yamaha badge (seca specific I think). One finger, no wrench. Then turned on the bike to see how my idle is from cold, after adjusting the mix yesterday. Perfect. Happy days. Unfortunately I have to finish some work on my thesis before I allow myself an actual ride, so maybe later today :)

Looks like a good first attempt at making a seat! You are correct about never-ending projects. :) I'm sure that I'm not the only one here who would like to read more about your brake conversion. Could you write up a build thread?

Yes please for the brake conversion write-up

Bought myself a gunk bucket and started to soak, poke, scrub, blow & what ever else it takes to get these F%&#$@% carbs clean. I'm going to get this POMF (piece of mechanized frustration) to run if it's the last thing I do. So happy I have a compressor just wish I had a few nice tiny needles for my blow gun for these tiny passages. Can't wait till I hear this Fire Breather lite up run well & reliably and take me for a ride down the street. Might be later today God Willing. And then it's off to the Modifications. :woowoo::cheers:

Obviously I was on Gods good side today!!! It RUNS!!!!! Not quite the best yet but with a little more tweaking and some pod filters. It'll be Game ON!!!!! I'll try to post some pics soon. Had to make 2 good carbs out of 4 marginal ones. Used the 78 XS360 carb bodies with all the jets from the 80 400 carbs since the 360 carbs had good floats & posts. All of the passages were gunked up bad. With no fork oil no headlight no side covers and all I couldn't resist takeing it just once around the block. Put about a mile on it. Now the fun begins.:woowoo::bike:

Been riding a lot lately and found that since I'm pretty tall, I tend to sit farther back on the seat....right at the hump of the seat. So I took off the vinyl, carved down the seat and made it all level, then re-vinyled. Came out nicely.

congrats mrstubb!! good to hear it's finally running

@mechnewb, that's very interesting. Could you post some pics perhaps? I'm 6'4'' and maybe it would be good to do that on mine as well. My seat needs reupholstering anyways

I was planning on documenting my progress...but I forgot to take pics until I was almost done
I pretty much just follow this thread from the 650 forum http://www.xs650.com/forum/showthread.php?t=197. Now that I have a new baby in the house, I'm sure the missus wouldn't like me making more brackets. :wink2:

My parts were forks from a 1980 SR500 and the calipers/rotors from a 1995 FZR600. I used 6061-T6 aluminum plate. Cut it with a hacksaw and used my drill press for the bolt holes. I used my hand drill with hole saws to make the spacers. I'll post the finished pics a little later tonight after work.

Also, I haven't been able to take her out yet to test the brakes. Waiting for more parts to be delivered before I can "finish" her :bike:
