What did you do with your XS today?

Willem, regards to tank lining,

I did 2 different things. My first one, Kreem. I did it fine, and per the instructions, then I forgot to open the breathing vent on the bottom of the fuel cap. Pic are on the site. then I used POR15 last summer. available via all the normal online sites. they have a motorcycle kit. Includes a Muraic acid, for the de-rusting, then after you rinse it out, dry it good, then put you dump the coating agent. Of course you have to block the holes, remove the petcock, and (Now I removed the whole fuel cap this time) Check your local auto shop for Kotes, or something simuliar.

http://www.eastwood.com/ew-gas-tank-sealer-kits-for-cycles.html?reltype=2&parent_id=26017

Check them both out, I think you can find a product sheet, or directions sheet, with a MSDS sheet, that will explain how to, and what to look for.

Thanks Tobie  I'll see if I can find those or similar anywhere around here. I found a lot of guys over here use either Kreem or TankCure: http://www.japparts.nl/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=11071

I think all of them should do the job without alot of problems. Think I'll try the TankCure since I can get that at my local shop. Now just to find some time to do it..

Mixed up some gas with Stabil and tried running it through the engine... Bike wouldn't start :/ probably something to do with it being -11C..

I guess I'll try it again tomorrow when its supposed to be around +4C lol

A little excited, today its +6C, still covered in (melting) snow though, but when i try to start my bike tonight i expect it will actually start lol

Made a aluminum bracket for my speedo, it weighs half of what the other was.

damn... Bike is still not starting.

Its either the weather or the carbs, because it was running until i let it sit for ~2.5 weeks at the start of winter without winterizing it

Oh well, i'll just have to re-clean my carbs again come spring time.. at least now i know how to do it efficiently haha

Replaced most of my fasteners ( 56 bolts so far)with the aluminum ones that I have been working on. Here is a few pics of some that are done.:)

Chris, I've been looking at various kits and assortments of fasteners on Ebay. Did you buy one of those kits or did you just get a bunch of assorted fasteners? Thanks Bill

I had to custom order these from a site called pitposse.com The titanium bolts are off ebay. None of these options are cheap:wink2:

Had a friend re-cover my old cut down stock seat from two years ago. I looks a lot better than what was there:laugh:

Got my carbs all in pieces, for the first time. The fuel bowl gaskets are shot but otherwise they are pretty clean & shiny. Going to try soaking them in Simple Green.

Be sure to remove you butterfly seals or they will get roached by the simple green:wink2:

There are two rubber seals on each carb at each end of the butterfly shaft. These must be removed before boiling or soaking in a heavy cleaner. If not they will not seal and you will have air leaks.

Wow, thanks for that. Ed Ness's rebuild guide, which is what I've been following, says that I'm done dismantling my carbs, but my butterflies and all their associated parts are still attached.

Hang on. The screws that attach the butterflies are staked. Did you grind off the ends of the screws to take off the butterflies? I think that's more than I can handle -- maybe I'll scrub my carbs selectively instead of soaking them.
