Well many people say to buy local. I went to local cycle shop, ordered some bearings and a set of tires. He told me they'll be in Tuesday.
Week went buy and no phone call. So I called up and he said that he forgot to place the order. Second time it's happened. I told him to forget it and bought my stuff online. Saved a lot of money too.

It's too bad. But perhaps he just to busy for a small fry like me. I don't have the souped up rocket or the big Harley.

Yup, I ve had this experience before.. The internet usually has cheaper prices and larger selection... Customer service is all local shops have and it seems some shops don't do well with that either :/

I'm lucky in that the local Yamaha dealer's parts department is well-stocked and knowledgeable, but they're still a hell of a lot more expensive than ordering online if I already know exactly what I need.

If you know what you need then online is the way to go. I do get some things from my local yamaha shop but only if the price is close and they have it in stock. They let me raid there used parts shed all the time so I need to do some business there.

This is why main st everywhere is having trouble. I'm not going to talk price if you have what I want when I want it. If the wait time is a few weeks I can get that anywhere at more favorable cost. My local yami dealer was bought up by a suzuki dealership. Bike shop there is happy to help but they can't do much for bikes older than 30 years unfortunately for them. It's always good to call first and save the trip just to get a song and dance in person.

I did have the dealership here tell me flatly that Yamaha only provides parts going back 19 years (why not a round 20? Go figure). They're the BMW, Suzuki and Ducati dealership too though, you'd think they'd have some archive stuff lying around.
