Going to check out this bike tonight. Owner is asking $1500 (CA) and it has 32k KM. from the photos it looks like its in decent shape. Owner also says it idles rough but ran fine last summer.

Thinking this would be a great commuter, first bike.

Anything I should be asking the owner? Things I should look for? Any cons I should be aware of?

Any advice from this wellspring of info is welcome.

I've got a 84 maxim 400 and LOVE it. Decent power and fun to ride. Not to mention awesome fuel economy. Bought mine for $300 us and bobbed it. They are a well made machine in my book. Good luck nd have fun.

I got my 82 for free. Granted it hadn't been started in 10 year's. Put some time and about $500 buck's into to get it on the road. Tire's, battery, chain, mirror's and some stuff I bought used from someone here.

Added some old dirt bike handle bar's on her and gave it a good wash.

IMO - 1500 seem's like a lot of cash but I'd need to see some pic's

Here's mine

I just picked up an 83 maxim for about half of the one you are looking at ( Canadian as well). Didn't run when I bought it but a good carb cleaning and some elbow and now she runs like a dream. Didn't spend a dollar on getting it road ready. I've seen quite a few xs400's pop up on kijiji, 1500 does seem a bit steep. You never know, patience might pay off and you could get a killer deal. uploadfromtaptalk1398379835269.jpg
