I am looking into upgrading my battery to an Antigravity battery. I saw on their site that they recommend upgrading the charging system on older bikes. Has anyone put one of these batteries in their XS? Could I just upgrade the reg/rec and be ok??

If you ave a mechanical voltage regulator, upgrade to a solid state. If you already have a solid state rectifier/regulator you should be fine.

From the reading I've been doing, get a battery that is at least 1 size larger than what the manufacturer suggests. Their suggestions are based on their "lead-acid battery equivalency" numbers, that are highly optimistic. Especially if you want to use electric start.

I have a 4 cell battery and so far, it's been fine (Had it for about 8 months). I mostly kick start though. When I have elec started, it cranked it, no issues.

im looking to get the anitgravity 8 cell batery (i have the elec starter and 240 cca should be enough ?) but im running the old rectifier , and the mechanical regulator, should i change both?? if so where cai i get them?

charles my bike is a 78 xs 400 E , my stock charging system its diferent , but good to know youve had no problems !! thanks

dave , can you recomend a rectifier/regulator to upgrade my charging sistem ?? i have no idea about this and need to upgrade before i recive the new battery, thanks

Factorres, I honestly don't have a recommendation. I haven't had to research this as my Maxim has a solid state rectifier/regulator that has been performing perfectly. I do know that there are threads here with detailed information. The search function will be of more assistance to you than I can be...

The stock ones will work just fine and there are lot of them around if they go bad.

A 4 cell was able to electric start your bike? I didn't think it had enough cold cranking amps
