The gravel road
New here, not that new to bikes have a newer KLR and an 88 NX250 honda. Just picked up a sort of running 82 heritage special as a project and for my son to ride.
Question 1: does anyone know of a dirt style foot peg that would be a direct fit or will I need to fab one?
Question 2: the vin stamped on the frame is 14W001000 seems an interesting number if that means it was # 1000 off the line that year or am I reading that wrong?
We live a couple hours north of Toronto Canada and ride a lot of gravel. For now we just want to get it on the road for summer but in the future I'd like to go in the scrambler /tracker direction with it.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks,Jim

Not sure about the vin. But good choice on the scrambler. I'm slowly doing my 792f. Did knobbies. Slightly longer shocks. Raised the front fender by an inch and a half. Mini speedometer. Apparently 21 inch wheel from an xt500 is an almost direct swap on drum brake front spoked wheel models. Gonna try and make it look like triumph tr5t.

Not sure on pegs either. Might just have to experiment .

Question 1, no idea, seems to be flexible thou.
Question 2, your right 1000 one inthe series. 14W = Model specifics. I couldn't find the 14W, but I did find a 14V. So if your bike a V, then you have a
((pasted here)) heritage 14V 10/81 1982 Which seems to match everything else you have stated about your bike. (there should be confirmation of you serieal number on the handle bar neck, Engine by kick starter, and one more place I cant think of right now.
