Mikuni slides

they are just really old, the boots connecting to heads are all dry rotted and I'm having all sorts of fuel/air mixture issues. Although, that may be a problem with my current petcock. They've been cleaned, re-jetted three or four times. I just want a nice new set. I hear good things about the mikuni slides but thats is from guys with Hondas...

Like i said, Im new to this stuff and i am not all that mechanically inclned.

Replace the manifold boots with new ones. The xs400 uses the same ones. It will help a lot with tuning it if there are air leaks. Post some pics of your bike so we can see what you are working with.

ok thanks. I will look into that. I'll post some pics tomorrow of all that bc my bike is at our club shop. I see you're in upstate ny?? What city?

lol, I'm trying to attach a photo of my bike, but I'm even having trouble with that

Very good. I live near Watkins Glenn. After you replace the boots ( ebay has them cheap) Make sure all the carb seals and o-rings are new. What size jets are you using now? Then sync them with a manometer. Lots of good threads on these subjects so just use the search function an start reading. :)

Yea I've been surfing thru these forums for a bit now. Did find the manifold boots on ebay for $33!! Nice. I can't even remember what size jets I put in. I changed them out like three different times, trying to find the perfect match. Runs great, but every now and then when I'm getting my speed up it starts to pop real loud and lose power. Almost like it's getting a ton of air suddenly. It slows down and then I have to let the throttle back down and wait for it to catch up again. Weird.
I appreciate your help in the matter. If you're ever in Syracuse, there is a fun vintage bike night at the restaurant i work at on Monday nights.

If it has been a while might want to do it again. Best to do it after you set the engine valves. But if you have bad boots might want to wait till then.

yea, my friend is suggesting i spray those boots with carb cleaner while it's running and it should rev a bit if there is any leaks. I'll just go ahead and get the boots anyway. Need to find a new petcock too. Today was a mess, the nipple from the fuel line kept just slipping out of the petcock that i have on and gas would just spew everywhere. I had to actually hold it in the ride back to the shop, lol. I probably lost a half gallon, i was soaked in gasoline.

Yes and no. They will both fit the same tanks but the xs360 and the 77-78 xs400 are built a bit different than the 79-82 sohc xs400 ones. Save yourself the headache of a vacuum petcock and get a non-vacuum one. I have had one on my 80 for thee years and just put one on my 82 and love them. You just have to remember to turn them off after a ride:wink2: http://www.mikesxs.net/product/20-0019.html
