My 1977 xs360 Build, may take a while, but its a start..

Gotta love having welder friends!

That is for sure. Just wish he had more time for my projects LOL

I wouldn't worry about the weld, that can be easily hidden. I need to get some fender mounts welded onto my USD fork lowers. Will probably look the same :)

I agree on the weld being hidden, plus can't complain for free aluminum tig welding.

I just can't wait to get back to the shop to be able to mount the front end on again.

Got some more work done. The front wheel is now on there for good, had to some tweaks to get it centered. Bought some handle bars and mounted. Also mocked up my exhaust. Here are a couple more pictures.

Sorry for the dark picture, Cell phone flash isn't that great..

Well hey, that's looking like a motorcycle

Thanks finally able to roll it around on its own.

Wowza, gorgeous build! Reminiscent of the streetfighter build offs... love the fork swap... must be nice to have a lathe!

Thank you very much on the bike. Slowly getting there, and the small little things seem to take forever to work on and buy.

The lathe is fun still learning on it and what not to do on it. Got a heck of a CL deal on it.

Was able to get a few more things done. The exhaust is mounted for good. Still debating if I like the "bbq" black paint. Got the main wiring pretty much all finished other than the turn signals and tail light. The speedo got wired and mounted. The headlight was shoved into the bucket to see what it looked like. I hooked up power to the leads and was able to get power to the speedo but no head light. Does it turn on when the bike runs? Might have to check that part out. Chain came in the mail this morning but didn't get to installing it tonight.

The carbs and filters are all installed and should be ready to go. Need to finish cleaning out the tank and then add oil and close to a test fire.

Looking good Norman. I was offered a similar front end but I don't have the abilities to make it fit like you do.

Personally, I think I would prefer the pipes to be shiny but that's me.

You started with the same bike as mine & I have a second seat to experiment on. I'm curious what you will do with your seat. Do you plan to re-cover using the same seat pan and trim or build something different?

Thank you very much.

I am planning on just reshaping the foam into a thinner profile hopefully and cutting the back part down quite a bit. Needing to get a taillight behind the seat so that might dictate how thin/thick i go with the new foam.

I played around in PS with the last picture of what I was kind of thinking for the seat.

That looks great, Norman! It seems to really complete the lines. I like how you still use the trim on the seat.

With the bike isolated like that and the old paint, I've changed my mind on the pipes. Now I'm liking that BBQ black.

Have you got a solution for your sidestand so it doesn't hit the pipe? Both of my stands hit my new pipes so I made stops that I bolted to the pipe mounts. You would likely make more elegant versions but you can see mine here and here.

I ended up painting the mufflers a little darker flat black and looks a lot better.

Thanks for the kind words. I hope the seat will come out the way I am invisioning it.

I like the way you made that kick stand stop. Might have to borrow the idea.

After being frustrated for a while working on it, I finally got the bike to run!!!!!

It is alive. Still have some things to get worked out. Like the seat, and not happy with the front brake cable feel. But getting closer.

There is a little smoke coming from the exhaust, but that is from the assembly and working on getting it running.

Got some seat work done last night. Just need to add the stock trim pieces back on. It will also make the back end look better. Also on the first picture you can see where and how much I cut off the back. The short line is where I bent the pan 90* to look stock. I forgot to take a picture once I finished the pan, but it is all painted black underneath the foam.

Next up, new battery and install rear tail light and figure out what I am going to do with turn signals and check out the front brakes.

Is that one of those integrated turn/brake light deals? I hope you are using separate turn signals. I got behind a bike the other day with one of theM that was tucked under the seat. It is the worst idea for a bike on the road:yikes: Hard to see the brake light on a sunny day and can't see the turn signal till your 5 feet away. Turn signals should be yellow and separate from the brake light. IMHO

Thanks for the suggestion xchris. Yes this is an integrated set up, but the turn signals do turn yellow/amber when turned on. This is just the tail light setting in the picture. Later this week I will try to get a picture with the turn signals on.

Thanks again.
