Hey everyone,

Your favorite newb here, Juju400. I've been reading this site trying to decide whether I want to go with pod filters or stock air boxes. The foam in my old air boxes was pretty beat up but I feel like buying new ones will save me time and money from refoaming the old ones. Idk

With the pods, I know rejetting will be necessary which takes more time and money but im hearing mixed reviews on rather it's worth it. I know it means more hp but i hear they can be damaging , as well.

With that being said, anyone got a link for some cheap air boxes, easy rejetting, or pods. vs. air boxes that would be helpful. I'll read em all.
Thanks, Friends

ps.- really close to getting the bike running, just need those filters and fresh gas. :bike:

I was able to get new filters, and its been fine since. I remember mine was shedding, or something near that.

Recovering with foam may require rejetting anyways. No way to guarantee that the new foam will permit the same amount of air as stock.

Stick with stock air boxes:wink2: They are designed for best overall performance.

Will I still need to rejet? Also, finding some has been a real pain, Chris. I read one forum in which the guy said that he didnt trust the 30 year old foam in the stock air boxes but I'm sure there are stock ones in better condition. I'll continue the search for some.

You'll most likely have to rejet once you put on the aftermarket muffler.

Stock air filters should be available directly from Yamaha.

Do you know guys where can i find the stock air boxes ? Because the previous owner put pods on the bike and i'd like to go back with the stock air boxes but i don't have any of the stock parts !

Ebay. 77-82 sohc xs400. 76-77 xs360 boxes will work but the H-pipe and vent hose is different.

I concur even with recovering stock air filters. P.o. re foamed mine....well Mr pilot cct didn't like that. Had an awful lean spot till you got on the needle. Me being frugal and having the jets on hand had to install a 47.5 pilot and small needle shim. Much better.
