What did you do with your XS today?

Went for a nice ride this morning, stopping at an open house for one of the local shops I deal with. Saw a lot of nice newer bikes, and spoke to a number of people who either owned an XS400 or at least remember them - all had nice things to say.

Won a fancy windbreaker for having the oldest bike. Then won a raffle prize: a "Shop installation kit" for Counteract balancing beads! Too cool! No more messing around with engraving tools and squeeze bottles. I will be able to install beads in the time it takes to sneeze!

Then I went for a longer ride and explored a number of gravel roads. :bike:

Not a bad way to spend the day!

Tested out a bi-xenon setup I ordered last week. Easy enough to hook up for testing purposes, but, routing the wiring and getting the bulb, ballast and igniter mounted will be a little more challenging.

I noticed if the bike doesn't start right off, the light draws too much power to just crank away with the electric start. You have to turn off the key switch to reset the headlight relay so it won't kick the light on immediately, then key on and try starting again. Or just kick it over and it starts right up.

Also...holy hell that thing is bright.

What did you decide to do for the headlight housing? I picked up a new headlight housing, but its not neccessarily compatible with the existing turn signal that are stock.

Finally got it out for more than a hop down the block. Took it down to Zimmermn and around a couple local lakes to visit a few friends. It ran good at speed and thru the gears but for some reason it still hangs a bit when coming down to idle. Guess I've got some vacuum & carb issues to check out. Pulled really well going up thru the gears when I'd hammer on it to around 8 grand. Still feels a bit snakey up between 50 & 60mph so I kept it down round 45 on these rural roads. Next purchase will be NEW aggressive tread tires & get rid of these old tired skins. I had around 30 miles of fairly good riding today!! WOOHOO!!!!:bike::D

The plan is to jam everything into the stock bucket, reflector & lens. If I'm lucky, I won't have to do much more than rearrange some wires, but I'm still working all that out.

Took the 79 out for the first time this year. It started right up and worked perfect:)

Yesterday I got the new tail light wired up and refitted my Suzuki headers to test-fit my new muffler. It's going to take less modification than I expected, which is good. I'll be losing the center stand but it won't need any cutting.

engine oil and filter changed, swing arm greased... x4 BP7ES, x2 fork seals on order, already have the fork oil... now I need to find a very good battery!!

Finaly painted gas tank. Had some problems with it so it took a while.
Now I'm happy again [emoji3] .

Made up my carb sync manometer:

Not much point in using it yet as my filters and exhaust are still subject to change. Good to go through the procedure though.

Found myself staring at it again, wishing I had the time to work on it....Life of a Semi-truck driver, all work and all work. Have some vacation coming up soon, should be up and running within the next few weeks.

Yikes, that sucks. I'm kind of in the same boat except I am in school all the time and simply have no money to get Tappet screws... so what did I do today? I stared at the engine and wished I could get the damn thing finished! Something, something, blah blah blah patience is somethingrather

Took the bike out for about a 100km ride yesterday. About half way through, I noticed my bike was having problems idling. "That's okay", I thought, "I'll have a look at it when I'm back. Turns out it was idling poorly because one of my pod filters fell off somewhere on the highway. I've given up looking for it now, assuming it's either crushed under car, a new home for a sparrow, or some animal has made off with it.

Sorry to hear about your loss. after hearing about all these pods being lost on the road, I will definitely be putting Loctite and some blue RTV around the boot.
