Hi all,

Pretty new to this so forgive me if I'm being thick...

I have a 77 xs400 that I'm in the process of restoring to a cafe racer.

I am looking to get some new dials for it, not wanting to spend too much but just want to tidy the front up... I am looking on ebay as "universal motorcycle dials" similar to this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal...813?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4181f5a97d

Can I just replace my old dials with these new ones? If not can anybody point me in the right direction of what I need to do etc?

Any help would be great! Thanks, Dan!

I suppose the few questions you have to ask your self,
1. are there laws that require certain things? Speedo verse Tach?
2. Can the exiting tach plug into the new system?
3. Speedo, will that plug into the new system, or is it going to be an Cell phone with some sort of GPS, feedback system.
Are you going to make something for the Oil light/Neutral light/Highbeam light? would it be included?

I know i have seen threads where they have been replaced. I guess that didn't help too much.

Guess you may have trouble with these gauges, they don´t work with motorcycles with an analog setup, as the seller writes. This means you will have to have some kind of pickup at your ignition for the revs, some kind of magnets in the fastenings srews of your brake disc for the speedo. I would expect some fiddling until it works. And they´re ugly! I wouldn´t use them.

My friend Marcel has found a mechanical driven speedo for his CX500. I´ll post photo later.

Viele Grüße aus Deutschland, Uli

Edit:

I´ve added the photos to a gallery, please take a look!

This is the speedo we used:
