What did you do with your XS today?

Sounds like a crazy ride Dave!

I've been sitting around doing nothing, looked at the bike today, need to drill the thru-holes and tap the mounting tabs I got from Travis before they get welded on the frame. From there I think I'll just install the stock airbox and start on the wiring harness. Definitely doing a starter-delete... dang thing doesn't work at all:shrug:

Not really to my bike, for my bike. I cleaned out my garage, got rid of all of my wife's things. I'm able to get to my tools again and was able to get my bike inside out of the weather. I'm now ready to tear it down for its restification. :D

Didn't do anything with the XS today, I was tearing into my spare XR engine and discovered that its crank bearing retainer had split clean off its seat. Guess I get to hunt down a new engine half. I'm in the midst of rewiring the XS though, just waiting on some uninsulated terminals to come in from Cycle Terminal.

Hey when did you steal my motorcycle lift? I thought mine was out in the garage being used as a repair stand for one of my snow blowers!

Anyone that doesn't know that is one of the Harbor Freight lifts. I still use the stock front wheel clamp, not as handy from what I've heard as the style shown above but works for me. One note keep close eye on the prices as they tend to change often and I have seen them asking almost $100.00 more than I remember paying.

While on the HF topic, if you have a store near by it would pay to drop by often as sometimes they will sell floor samples at an extra discount. One example, I lucked out and bought the 20 ton shop press for $20 less than the lowest advertised price. Plus as it was on display all the packaging crap was gone, saved me getting rid of it.

Got it out of the shed relunctaly and drain the gas out for winter.Started it and ran all the gas out of the carbs, tikered around on the voltage system and that was it,Game over till next spring:bike:

Winter? It's not snowin' yet, bucko. Sounds like you need a heavier jacket.

Weeks of being too busy to tinker with the somewhat finicky bike have come to an end. Finally had the opportunity to take it out for a good long ride with zero trouble, and it worked out to be a beautiful and unusually warm 72 degree day.

Glad I got the bike working perfect...just in time for winter. :D All is good, though. I will be riding until I get frostbite or until icy roads become prevalent.

Beautiful weather continues... Got off work today and Went for a nice 80 mile cruse down to South Jersey to check out Nicks Custom Cycles down in Wiliamstown.. I think he was on American Pickers or Whats in the Barn... on of those shows.

Loads of cool old barleys up stairs and millions of spare parts. Was cool to see.

Took advantage of a beautiful day and went for a 60 mile ride. ...My first real ride since I got my cycle endorsement (the week before last). Also, the longest continuous ride I've taken to date, and it only used a gallon and a quarter! :D

The bike ran fantastic, considering it was the first time I've ridden it for more than a 5 minute stretch. I put off riding for most of the summer because I wanted to make sure the thing was going to be reliable, but today, couldn't have been better. The only thing I noticed was that the clutch was a little slippy when I got on the throttle, but it wasn't bad if you figure that the bike was rotting away in a barn for almost 30 years before I found it.

That's a sweet setup.
I modified some grease nipples a while ago to make drain plug adapters but haven't gotten around to actually checking the float heights with them.
Something to do over the winter.

Took her around town for a spin. About 30 miles or so. Love those European handlebars! I feel like they were made for me. Still waiting on my BOSCH H4 headlight and bi xenon kit. Also thinking about getting bar end mirrors...:bike:

Yesterday I got the horn relay and tail light wired back up and moved the power switch upstream from the fusebox so only the primary 12V wire is running in and out of it. I used to have a STDP switch downstream of the fusebox but decided to simplify with a STSP switch with power from the battery spliced off just ahead of the fuses. No idea if that's better or worse but it fits physical layout of the battery tray better.

Made a two part test mold.
Going to cast it in urethane plastic and try it out.

Took the forks apart, partly. Removed the fluid and the springs and seals. Sanded them down and painted them with Epoxy paint.

One done and one not:

Both done. Sorry for the crappy photos. My camera battery died. The paint is satin and looks better in person. I'll take proper photos in daylight.

I have new seals, progressive springs and fork gaiters for it when they go back together.
