i have a 1980 xs400 (mostly) that is a custom built chopper. the only thing original on the bike is the engine and the cage. built from scratch so to speak with the help of three xs400 of varying years. at this point the chopper is finished and runs beautifully... but it doesn't have a tittle. i was hoping i could go the easy way and just get any old xs400 title to register the bike under. if any one has maybe a parts bike with an old title filed away please contact me. id gladly pay what ever you may think its worth. appreciate the help :bike:

Clever idea. However, at least in CT, when you register a bike from out of state, the DMV physically inspects the bike to confirm the VIN #. You may need to remove and buy the VIN # from another bike too. Be curious to see how this works out. Bikes w/o a title go real cheap. Good luck!

Why didn't you check into getting a proper title before building your bike? All your work may go down the drain if the state refuses to issue a title. Get down to the DMV or contact the highway patrol to get current information. Guys on this board think its a good idea to cut and reweld rather than doing paperwork.

Here in ny if you are not the last registered owner or have the original title in hand your screwed. Only the last own can file paper work to re-title a bike. Lots of people do neck swaps. I have sold plenty of necks with good titles for xs650s' on the xs650 forum in the past. There is no wait time and bs with trying to find the last owner.
