What did you do with your XS today?

Not yet. The fluorescent lights in my shop are old and don't like the cold. Cold? It was +7C yesterday! Those whiny lights don't know how good they got it. When I was their age... [emoji6]

I'll see if I can get the bike out later today for pics

I not only got my bike out for pics, I even managed a 100km (60 mi) ride to run errands. So far I have to say I'm pleased with the Kenda K676. I'm running it at 30psi right now, which is a bit on the soft side, but it allowed the tire to warm up despite the cool weather (5C / 41F). I wasn't riding hard as there is still some sand on the roads and the tire hasn't been scrubbed in, but at no time was I surprised by the tire. No, it doesn't have as much grip as the previous Bridgestone TW40 had in soft conditions or snow, but it wasn't spinning either.

Following up on my last post, ordered viton butterfly shaft seals from www.litetek.co/index.html.
They don't list the seals outside of kits but were able to sell me four when I emailed them. Had the butterfly shaft screws too.

Was cheaper than OEM. Possibly higher quality and longer lasting. Reviews seem good. Will post thoughts when they arrive.

Hope they fit ok as I think the fzr uses a different type of carb than what the xs400 uses.

They refer to the same oem part # that members here have used to order replacements.
Fingers crossed.

Signed some paperwork to get closer to getting paperwork for the SJ.
Also ordered a soda blasting kit.

Took her from New Mexico to bakersfield ca.to buffalo ny.down the east coast.and back.no problems jus had to put gas.
Understated much? That's awesome.

I only bought the butterfly shaft seals and screws. Cross-referencing a few of the OEM part numbers listed in that kit didn't turn up many matches for our carbs so I didn't bother with the parts without OEM #s.
Is the FZR750 pilot screw o-ring the same as the o-ring on our carbs?

Haven't installed them permanently but the butterfly shaft seals fit so well that I've been tempted to order another set for my XS360. If any other viton parts are compatible I'd probably buy them too.

Sadly the petcock seals they sell look similar but appear to be incompatible with the our stock petcock. After rebuilding my fuel tap last year it looks like the seal is already deteriorating. Could be ethanol damage.

Tried to fire it up for the first ride of the year.

Sunday reached 60 degrees and beautifully sunny in Michigan, today...23 and a forecast 6-8 inches of snow. :I

I was planning on a quick hop to the other side of town for a family event, figuring parking would be convenient, but, it wouldn't start, so I ended up taking the truck.

Went to kick it over, figuring I would prime it a bit with some slow kicks. Felt like I was stepping on a soft stick of butter. Okay, weird, so e-start... Turns over fine, fuel flowing...nothing. Pulled plugs, they are less than a year old and looked fine. Nice and tan, with a touch of damp from trying to start with the choke on. Hit them with a brass wire brush to clean them up anyway. I'm met with a weak, yellow, and intermittent spark. Cleaned the points. A little black dust, and some sparking across the points when opened and closed. Compression seemed fine, but will check with a gauge at some other time. At this point I gave up, since I had to get to the family thing.

At the end of last year, I noticed the clutch felt a little slippy under heavy load. I have a feeling this is a symptom of the squishy feeling kicker. Otherwise, I'm not sure if the weak spark is caused by bad wires, coils, grounds or something deeper in the charging system. According to chapter 3, section 6.3 of the service manual, the symptoms in my ignition system are almost verbatim to what the book says is a bad condenser(s). I will be investigating.
