Front Brake Safety Relay?

Hi guys,

I posted about this a while back within an unrelated thread I made. One dude had an idea, but I think I've eliminated the probable cause he suggested. So - here's the issue...

A slap test will only work if the front brake is engaged, the bike will only start if the brake is engaged, and the bike will immediately die if the front brake is released. If something is incorrectly wired, there is a safety relay gone bad, or there is a short somewhere, does anyone have any ideas where I should look?

Thanks!
Jake

On later bikes there's a safety relay that works with the clutch switch. Shouldn't be anything directly involved with the front brake.
I don't think your year of bike had the safety relay but it'd be a crossed wire in the headlight bucket.
You'll have to open up the headlight bucket, find the wires going to the brake switch, and verify against the wiring diagram that it connects where it should.
