'79 XS400 Cafe Build

Looking pretty good so far.

I am slightly farther along, but doing a similar build.

I'm creating my own wiring start to finish! Similar speedo to yours.

The link to my build is in my sigline.

Thanks for the diagram! Right now I'm debating a complete redo with fresh wire or leaving as is. I'll probably end up leaving as is for now. Everything on mine is still bits and pieces all over the place, it's all there but it's all everywhere :D

I've got new rear sets sitting in the box as well. Itching to start getting this back in one piece but I also realize I have 4-6months before the snow clears.

Finally got her running! I think I'm going to need a 2 to 1 exhaust conversion as the pipes currently prevent shifting. Either that or extend the smaller pipe all the wat past the shifter and then put a shorty exhaust on.

Quick question, I've moved my pegs back and bought some universal rearsets which have a long threaded rod to reach back to the shifter/brake but what I'm wondering is where can I buy a little toothed bracket that shifts over the shifter/brake?

Picture for reference. I have a piece that screws on to the end of the rod and let's be bolt 90deg to a vertical piece off of the shifter.

On the battery side of things I'm leaning towards this as a temporary solution until I get her running nice and smooth, then I'll drop the electric start https://www.kapscomoto.com/product_p/ytz14s-1n.htm?CartID=1.

For exhausts as you can see my current solution doesn't leave me space to shift or brake. If I don't pick up the MAC 2 to 1 then I'll go with two of these guys to hold me over http://www.ebay.com/itm/38mm-ID-Stu...2a0a40f&pid=100574&rk=3&rkt=4&sd=180598026330

For the front plate which holds the moto number plate, light and turn signals, I've got some mockups done in cardboard. Now to spec it out and get the plates made!

Well, you have disc brake, right? I am not familiar with disc brake at the back (I have drum). So I am not sure where is stock brake pump. Maybe you could use stock splined brake arm like this...

Or something more sophisticated like this....

Ya after looking around online I'm starting to think just cutting the stock arm off might be good right now.
I've left the rear brake reservoir in it's stock location but that Honda build is clean!

The green and white XS was built by a crew local to me, I asked what the muffler was and apparently it's off an old Honda XR (if I recall correctly).

Kicking off some brackets for the front plate mount. 1/4" aluminum plate. I found a PVC pipe that'll fit perfectly once sanded down. I mocked it up with zip ties in the last image, it'll sit a bit lower than this in reality. The top aluminum plate will hold a X ram mount for my phone/speedo. The bottom plate has 2 45deg flanges which hold my left/right turn signals.

Also picked up this battery, pretty small, should leave me enough room in my seat. https://www.kapscomoto.com/product_p/ytz10s-1m.htm

Slowly making some progress.

Where'd you find the headlight?

Looks like a good battery. Will you be retaining the starter?

I picked these up. http://www.ebay.com/itm/282086671164
I know they're not good as a headlight but they do have the ring, which can act as a 'hi beam' of sorts. If it's really bad I'll add the second one in, but I do very little night riding so I'm not overly worried.

Edit: number plate is this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Acerbis-Fro...-2314150002-/252309089767?hash=item3abecb2de7

It's got 2 mounting points on the bottom and 1 at the top. It seems to lineup pretty close to the triples thankfully.
