What did you do with your XS today?

It's been cold out. Too cold to work in my un-heated, converted drive shed of a "shop". And I've got a cold. A snivelling and sneezing man cold. So I ate chicken soup and ordered parts for my XS to help me feel better. Hopefully the weather forecast is close to accurate and this coming Friday will be above freezing. I'm hoping to ride to Port Dover for the 13th. Just because I want to be able to say I rode in January.

Haha, yea same here, on the recovery side of the cold/flu. Today I was able to umm.... winterize my bike, after swapping out the old tach cable, and moving it from a nice attached warm garage to a shed in the back. (my version of winterize, I drove it till it got stuck in the snow. which was right away. then at a mildly higher than I would have preferred rpm, I ended up pushing/high idle engaged all the way though the 6 or so inches of snow cover. ) after which, I pulled the fuel line, off and let it idle to a stall, and I pulled the battery.

half way though winter, and now I want to winterize it. sorry but i think thats funny. and dashing thou the snow with the bike hoping that the snow was low enough to drive though it. Nope not today.

Riding up here in january:eek:...I admire your courage Sire:bow2:

Between a below freezing forecast and work, I'm not going to get to ride on Friday the 13th. But the forecast for the next 2 weeks looks promising. Time will tell...

Taking another crack at a custom seatpan. the bottom is flat, it's the angle that makes it look kinked. It will sit parallel with the pinch weld in the tank. I'll have to evaluate if that's too deep or not at that point, I may decide to cut it back the half-inch or so so it aligns with the top edge of the pinch weld instead.

The frame will have a hoop welded to match the profile of the seatpan, that part is not yet complete (among many other things, clearly).

Today I pulled my damaged camshaft and repaired the oil pressure sensor wire, which seems to have gotten severed the last time I torqued down the sprocket cover.

unloaded my 81(pictured)and my 79 today.got them back.the 81 has the 79 motor in it and will be bobbed. the 79 will probably become a street tracker with dual sport tires or a cafe

I got the 80 sg back together. I used the front end off the 80-g since the stock one is now on that. I made and welded tabs back on the frame so it has the stock battery box, solenoid and relays where they should go. The e-start is back in it. The tach drive and assembly has been re-installed. I had to fix the stock wiring harness all back to stock, which was a major pain. I still need to find some stock muffler mounts so I can put a factory exhaust in it, although I have a mac 2-2 I may use instead. I plan to re-paint the tank and fender along with a few other things. With most of the parts I had on it going to the 80-g build I did have some less than nice stuff laying around. I still had to buy a bunch of things to make it happen, but in the end I will have a nice running/riding bike this year and five xs400's on the road. :)

Look at your seat, I see one possible solution. And why what you have done (which looks good!) doesn't quite work...
Thank you Dave, what would be your view? I will keep the 2 steel lines and leave a black stripe in the middle with no diagonal stripes, and British Racing Green instead of the grey primer.
That should go well with the wood details..

I was visualizing a diamond pattern of lines on the black stripe, matching with the diamond stitching on the seat. Matched so that it appears that the pattern carries from the seat up the tank.

Thanks Dave, I thought about it, but I reckon the diamond pattern works well alone on the seat..and the main aim of the tank pattern I tried was to recall the yamaha racing pattern. I'll stick with the brit racing green, black in the middle with 2 steel lines. I'll post some pics when the job is done..just waiting for a handful of degrees more here in london. Peace

I can see what Dave's saying but it might make the pattern too bus.

Fired up the '360 today. Temporarily wired in my ignition circuit relay. Works anyways, not sure how much higher the voltage at the coils might be now.
Also tried using a CBR125 regulator/rectifier in place of the stock rectifier. Seems to be a drop-in, might keep it tests no worse than stock.

Installed pamco ignition last week, last several days cleaned up my battery tray mounted and wired in a xj550 regulator/rectifier. Got everything put back together, bike fired up and is running great! Took it for a spin, instant throttle response vast improvement.
