Right cylinder not firing (issue with points?)

Hello,

Over the last 2 years I've build a custom XS400 (café inspired). I have simplified/shortened all the wiring of the bike and use a motogadget M-unit to control everything. Aesthetically the bike is just about finished. However, the bike starts up but will only run on the left cylinder.

Things I have checked/confirmed
- both spark plugs have spark (spark distance measured, even switched them)
- both ignition coils work (switched ignition coils)
- cables from points to ignition coils are ok (measured them, even switched them)
- points seem to be adjusted as they should (distance measured, position was marked before dissambly)

A buddy came with a timing light (you connect it to the battery, then run the plug-wire through a special clamp and a light flashes in sync with ignition). On the left we have a correct and regular ignition, but on the right we either get nothing or a real irregular signal (a few flashes, nothing, few flashes, etc.). So I figure either something must not be right with the points or something is interfering with the ignition coils when they are both working. I took my pass-through measurement and opened up the points.

What I find is that (at least on some parts of the cycle) both point-cables seem to be connected (signal passes through). If I disconnect the capacitor at the ignition coils, this is still the case. However if I disconnect either one of the ignition coils this is no longer the case. Although I have no knowledge on how it all works on an electronical level, my logic tells me this should not be.

During a normal cycle, the left cylinder will fire first, and then the right. But if the signal passes through when the left cylinder fires, it may interfere with the igniton for the right cylinder.

Does anybody have an idea on what a solution might be?

Now that I write this up, I figure I could try to disconnect the point of the left cylinder and then see if the right one fires as it should. But I have not tried this yet.

By the holy trinity of Fuel, Air and Spark I compel you to meticulously check your carbs. Also a compression test couldn't hurt. You're getting spark so it stands to reason that you should be getting something out of the right.
 
How did you determine that the point cables seem to be connected?
May need a new condenser.
