Hey guys,

I've been trying to figure out what's currently wrong with my bike, it was working prior to the winter season and then trying to start it up for the riding season just isn't working :(

I've narrowed it (sort of) down to the ignition coils possibly, where if I put it to metal I don't see any sparks going. Although what's weird is when I turn the bike off I see a single spark go off.

I've tested the primary and secondary coils and they seem to be giving a regular reading, about 3 ohms for the primary and I think 10k ohms for the secondary? So I can't seem to figure out where the problem is. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Additionally: I've taken apart the carbs and they don't seem gummed up or anything

What Mike said.

I'm guessing it's an electronic ignition with that coil reading.
Check the pickup coil resistance.

The one spark is normal, but of course it should spark when turning over.

It's a 1980 xs400, nothings been done to the engine or carbs so stock in that sense? Otherwise I'm not too sure what else has been changed.

For resistance, the pick up coil reading in getting is About .710 for one side and .7300 on a 2k reading?

I do not know much about the later style ignitions as my bike has points. Although, I did recently buy a pickup coil to do a little experimentation with..
