Hiya Folks! Picked up this 81 frame and motor this week. It's lacking nearly everything and I figure I'm going to need a bunch of help. My brother has done a few xs400 builds already (he's on here somewhere)and has great things to say about this site. So here we start the project...

Welcome to the forum. That's a 82 sohc xs400 heritage special. I have the same bike but all stock. That looks like the frame has already been cut.

Yeah, the po was thinking cafe racer, I'm stuck somewhere between bobber and hardtail. Have to make it run first!

If you can get those carbs to fit, you will need to get xs400 needles and needle jets as the xs650 ones are not metered correctly for the sohc xs400.

The nice thing is that they're from an SH model 650, so they're still bs34 just like the stock 400. Jets n needles are cheap compared to whole carb...actually jetted a tad leaner than the 400...we'll see how it all plays out. Still waiting on engine brackets.

These are the ones I am talking about.
DSC03627.JPG XS400 carbs should have a 135 main jet, 42.5 pilot and a 155 air jet. That's for a fully stock bike.
