Hi guys I just got an 81 xs400 for free from my grandfather. It has wheels and a front end from a later one though. We're not sure why it is that way but hey whatever it works. It needs way more work but I got it running pretty good so far. And yes it is still filthy.

I believe that'll be an 1980 XS400G.
Definitely not an 82 with the paint job.

Actually my bad. It's an 81. Changed it now.

81 SH if your vin starts with 4R4 the wheels and forks are 82-84 dohc xs400 maxim. I would get a set of stock air boxes and intake pipe "H-pipe" as the bike will run/tune much better than what you have now. Welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately I don't have the original intake but I have it running pretty well now. It has some oval K&N filter that goes on both carbs. And the exhaust is gonna have to also be replaced cause it has a hole in the right side muffler.
I've been pretty successful tuning it so far but if I have issues with running once I fix up the exhaust and such I'll probably find a set of the original.
