Hello! I am new here. A month ago I bought a 1982 Yamaha Maxim from my cousin, but he didn't have the manual. The VIN starts with 15G so according to my research it should be an XS400J.
I am sorry if this has been posted before, but despite searching for a long time I haven't been able to find a free manual online for my bike! I know there are some similar models out there, e.g. the Seca, so that could work too. If I have to buy it that's fine, but thought I would make one last effort to find it and save some money.... Thanks for any help!

Pretty sure the Seca manual is as close as you'll find. Neither Haynes nor Clymer made one for the dohc bikes at all. I see one listing on ebay for a dohc service manual but the price is a bit much.

Victoria, BC?

Not too familiar with DOHC but I think they were the same between model years.

I think that makes at least 5 members from Victoria.

Either of you Victoria boys the previous owner of the bike in my profile pic? 82 XS400 that got chopped up. Would love to hear the recent history first hand.

Haven't had a DOHC myself, but that notched seat looks really familiar.
Can't figure out why. Maybe coincidence.

The notch in the seat is where it's bolted to the frame (?). Apparently a custom seat made for this project at some expense. Certainly comfy enough and will be better once that red box comes off. Who in town is most knowledgeable about these machines? Victoria Motorcycle? Adrenaline? Thanks.
