Hi folks, I got my rebuild kits in the mail for my 1980 XS400. It seems like I got some parts that I didn’t pull out of the carbs. I found that the previous person to attempt a rebuild on these forgot to put the washer back between the emulsion tube and the main jet, so before I rule these parts out as something my carbs don’t need, I wanted to double check here.

The brass piece is just a screw and it has no holes. The rubber o-ring is the bigger of the two o-rings in the kit.

It's the bowl drain screw for the 81-82 style carbs. I see your kit is missing the pilot jet rubber plug. Make sure to replace those.

Rod,
diagram always helps. may need to adjust for your submodel, this is 1980 submodel G (Special II):
https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/yamaha/motorcycle/1980/xs400g

As chris pointed out, the rubber plugs are also important and mine was missing these (PLUG, SCREW: 3F7-14991)
Bought these for $9 in US: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Carb-plugs...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Even looking at diagram I wouldn't have known about them if Chris hadn't mentioned it and I wasn't running right without those (and fixing floats and needle).

Thanks for the help, fellas. The pilot jet plugs were in the carburetor and seems to be functioning fine. Do I really need to replace them?

Also is that O-ring part of the 81-82 float drain?
