Ok so in my adventure to get my 1981 xs400sh street legal I must have fucked up something in the ignition wiring. Currently getting no spark. All my indicators are working and no blown fuses. Where do I start? I replaced and gapped the plugs. My bike is kickstart only as it has a small sealed lead acid battery. The bike was running before but was missing the vacuum plug on the one boot and all the lights.

So I have done some testing, both primary coils are at 3.6ohms and the secondary coils are at 19.4k and 18.6k with 9.8k caps. All 3 ignition switch leads have continuity with each other. Any ideas on where to go from here?

Check your point gap. If it’s too high, it could prevent the transfer into the system. It’s too low, it might have a constant stream of power into the system. Check your coil temps. It might give you a clue on where to go. Wish you luck.

Believe 81 is non points, but timing can still be checked. Ensure battery has enough juice? Try with trickle charge. You testing with one unscrewed but grounded to engine right?
