Hi guys, I’m a new rider and have recently purchased an 83 seca.

Things that have been done to it since purchase:
Brake fluid changed and bled
Clutch adjusted
New chain and front and rear sprockets
New spark plugs
Oil change
Carbs cleaned
Added SAE cable to charge a device and for battery tender
Swapped headlight to LED
Swapped tail light to LED

Next season it will get new tires and a new battery.

Bike seems to be running great, I have been using 89 octane fuel. This morning I was hunting for the flasher unit as the self cancel does not work. I pulled of the side fairing, I noticed the sticker inside mentioned 91 octane. Think I might give it a try this week.

I will upload the pic with the info for future reference for others!

Hey, just joined today and thought I'd chime in. I just picked up a seca a few weeks ago and am in the process of rebuilding front caliper( waiting on parts ) , installing a NOS speedo (previous didn't work), new ss brake lines, etc... This is my first bike, got it.from CL for $600. Previous owner dropped the bike and put a nice dent in the side of tank. Other than that seems to be in good shape.
The bottom of my sticker is ripped off right where the oil and octane is listed so that's good to know!
Where did you get your chain and headlight? Not sure how much I like the rectangle lol

Chain and sprockets were given to me from the previous owner, he never got around to installing them. I bought the led lightbulbs on Amazon but chose to buy good ones as I have heard a lot of horror stories about cheap ones, I figure I saved about 5 amps give or take.

The valves on my bike actually seized up so I bought another seca for parts and we built a «best of » from both bikes and got her working again. Next on list is new battery and new tires.

Where did you get your speedo from? Even though I have 2 Speedo’s now, the both have issues.

Ah got ya. I've been shopping around and found a "heavy duty chain for 70ish"

Glad to hear you've stuck with it and got it going again!!

I got it off of ebay. Here's a link to one for sale now https://www.ebay.com/itm/1982-1983-...6M-83570-A0-00-/142380467148?autorefresh=true I reinstalled speedo into housing and hooked cable up, tested with drill and worked lime a charm (had to make sure drill was in reverse...odometer started back tracking w/ drill in forward, lol). Waiting to finish getting brakes together to road test it. Probably won't happen until Thursday though. Probably better off that way as it won't be as cold then (16 F out now...).

I've been going to this site (https://www.yamahapartshouse.com/oemparts/a/yam/500423d0f8700209bc787b9c/meter) looking up part numbers an then searching for them on ebay lol. Much cheaper that way/ can actually find parts.

Also if you ever get a lead on a gas tank let me know. The previous owner dropped the bike and creased the tank pretty good, not sure how well it can be repaired.

Thanks for the eBay link, I might try fixing my speedo, I was thinking maybe buying a digital speedo but not sure about that move.

My bike is stored for winter now but looking forward to spring and riding. Your going to love the seca!!!

If I get a lead on a gas tank, I will definitely let you know!

No problem! I had thought about doing digital or even switching to round instruments but I'm a bit on the fence about keeping the integrity of the stock bike. The square parts definitely scream 1980 though lol. I might take it for a spin here in a few to test out brake job. And super stoked now because I know how fast I'm going!! Thanks for keeping me in mind with the tank!
