HELP!! winterized and now leaking gas past carb!??

So, I topped off with gas and added some seafoam and ran it for a while the other day to winterize the bike... noticed a few days ago, my garage smelled like gas... go out today and noticed a puddle of gas underneath , I see it dripping gas from the hose between the carb and air filter, and from the air filter (or it's just dripping down for another location)... I'm not a mechanic at all, and its now cold in ohio...before I ran it, there were no leaks, etc... Is there something simple I'm missing? photo attached... where two fingers are is where it's dripping... at the very least, how do I stop the leak until spring to take it in somewhere, without emptying the tank and having it rust? Shouldn't the petcock in the current position prevent gas from going into the carb in the first place?

Hey - just had the same issue as well. It sounds like the float valves in your carb are stuck, which normally should prevent the gas inflow to the carb when the carb is at its normal "full" point. When the floats are stuck, gas continues to flood in, and then follows the path of least resistance until it eventually leaks out of the carb, in your case, back into the air filter. This all depends on the angle of the bike (side kickstand vs full stand, if it is stored on a flat surface, etc).

This problem does not persist if you have you the gas line turned off at the petcock.

I may be completely wrong on all of this... if another user can help @stephen2us out that would be great.

Also - the position of your petcock right now allows the flow of fuel. An easy way to think of it, is: when the petcock handle is up and down, aka, in line with the flow of gas from the tank to the gas line, then gas is allowed to flow. The other position, which goes across the fuel line, blocks the fuel from running.

I could sure use a nice little inline fuel filter like you have.. the one I picked up from Princess Auto and tried to install is wayyyyyy to big for my bike. It blocks the choke.

Your vacuum petcock is bad and not shutting off. Disconnect the line to the carb and plug the hose from the petcock. This will stop the gas from leaking out of it. The float needles are not fuel shut off valves in your carbs but metering devises. They may need to be replaced from age anyway but your petcock needs to shut off when the bike is not running. Store the bike on it's center stand. Drain the carbs of fuel. I would make sure your air filters are still ok as gas can destroy them. Also make sure the gas in not in the oil.

First, thanks guys.!!.. Ok... I plugged the petcock hose earlier after posting this. Does the petcock just need rebuilt? I read on here somewhere that it breaksdown to just like 7 or so parts and is easy to do..maybe some o-rings or something, would this be accurate?

Correct. Plenty of threads discussing this: search the site. Can either rebuild or replace petcock
