Hi everyone

I have the opportunity to get a 1983 Kawasaki 440 LTD, with no cash out of my pocket (I'm able to make a few trades).

I'm seriously considering the offer.

The bike was in good running condition 3 years ago when it was put away.
Has about 20,000 original km, and has not been modified in any way with the exception of an aftermarket exhaust (and carb jetting) done.

Will need new tires and lots of general maintenance to bring back to great shape, but as is, it's a really nice little bike with no major outstanding issues.

In my research I have found that information is MUCH more difficult to source on the Kawa 440's, than the XS400's. I'm hesitant to get this bike and expect to do too much to it, as I'm still working on my 83 XS400 and my 74 TX500.

If I do accept the offer, I would hope to do the following:
1. fix the XS400, make it a suitable daily driver.
2. Have the TX500 which is already heavily modified, in good working condition, so that when I do weekend rides with my brother, he can use the XS and I can use the TX.
3. Convert the Kawasaki 440 into a tracker style bike and leave it at my parent's property to ride on dirt roads and light trails up there. This property is about 3 hours away, so I won't see the bike much in the winter months (periodically) but I will see it most weeks during the summer as I travel there frequently.

Anyone here have any experience with the 440?

well i went against @sipma02 advice and got the bike.
Not sure what i'm in for. It's VERY clean (Surprisingly so) but appears to be flush out of oil. Clutch isn't functioning properly, I can't shift it out of neutral. Everything else is gorgeous, tank clean carbs clean new seat etc.
PO did the rejetted carbs after aftermarket exhaust install. Original airbox intact.
Comfy bike but small with a 2 up seat for a bigger rider. Hope to modify the seat for comfort and then figure out what the hell is going on with the rest of it.
Three bikes side by side looks real nice in the garage. Now to tell the wife she needs her license so we can ride together..
