Hi all. I’m currently doing an internship in cad/cnc manufacturing at a machine shop and I have the opportunity to model and run a few parts on the machines. I figured I could make some long out of production xs400 parts.

Are there any out of production parts that there is a decent demand for? I could probably machine a some molds for making rubber parts too. Please respond with suggestions this could be cool.

Aftermarket rings for standard size pistons can be had on ebay. Standard pistons and oversize piston kits can also be found on a German web site but they are pricey.

Ya, totally pricey. But I've got too much invested in this build now. I'm likely just going to get the german ones. Virtually every other piston is a single or badly scorched lol

The only new ones being made now. No other options. I bought a set of 50 over pistons with rings and pins from yamaha new about 10 years ago and paid around $250. They had to be shipped from japan and was the last complete set that came up on the computer. I still have yet to use them but when I do I will be ready.

Sweet, nice to have on hand. Too bad they stopped making the parts, trying to force us old dust kickers into buying new bikes lol

Looks like I'll be having to buy the German ones. I found my compression tester. Piston 1 has barely 100 lbs, piston 2 barely 125. Looks like I finally solved my not starting mystery lol good news is that I have time on my side. I'm picking up my 2015 Royal Enfield classic 500 Desert storm tomorrow from the shipping depot.
Itll be my daily runner now. Then I can take my time on doing a proper engine workup on my xs400

I would set the valves and see what that does. If they are off a lot it could be part of it. Also spay some fogging oil down the plug holes as you may have sticking rings.

I put a little atf in er. Waiting to see what that does. I've got valve feeler gauges. I'm thinking that I'll reseat and lap the valves and see what happens
