Hey guys, bought my first xs400 last year. It's a 1980 special II, I've completely redone everything on it and as I'm finishing it up realized the chain I bought rubs on the engine casing. I've read the forums and it seems like there's a mixed reviews on whether or not this is actually bad. I wanted to get the bike finished up and on the road this weekend, but the chain rub makes me nervous. Does anybody have any experience with this good or bad?

So what chain are you running, is it wider than stock? Anything rubbing against the chain, especially expensive brittle aluminium engine cases, sounds like a really very bad idea. Post some pics

A o-ring 530 chain is wider than a standard 530 chain. The inside is the same where the meet the sprockets but the outer is larger because of the o-rings and thicker links.

I took off the chain and will send pics of the marks it made just by moving the rear wheel with my hand, honestly chewed up the case pretty fast without even running it. I'm going to buy a standard chain to run instead of the x-ring chain I have, should have done the research before hand...
