So my rear shocks are blown. Which would be the better choice? New old stock xs400 shocks or Honda Rebel 250 shocks? I like the idea of the rebel shocks as it would lower it a little, and being on the shorter side i struggle a little now with footing. How would the rebel shocks do with a passenger? I don't have a rear fender so thats not a concern. I also like the idea of direct swap with factory shocks, but the lower height really appeals to me. Any insight?

Since you say shocks I assume you mean SOHC? My Maxim is a monoshock and it has a adjustment for how hard it soft the suspension is. I plan to adjust it to be much softer actually, I can barely tiptoe on it as is. Does the SOHC not have similar adjustment?

I'm of the opinion that long term is more important... So I would throw the extra time and money into the rebel shocks or even some aftermarket ones that have adjustable ride height, as imo that would be the best option.

Well worth spending a bit on this. Mine came with aftermarket Forza shocks, hard as rock and terrible ride. I bought a pair of Hagons, with springs adjusted to rider weight. Just brilliant improvement.

I got impatient and ordered a pair of Dimecitycycles shocks. I'll see how they work out. I'm sure they'll be better than some 40yr old blown stockers
