Hey all,

Pilot jets were stuck and they’re now beat to hell with no budging at all after pb buster, broken extractor bit and all. Any other suggestions for getting these damn things out?

Take all the rest of the parts off, soak in carb cleaner till clean. Dry off the put in oven to 200f 90C. Aluminium expands faster than brass so should loosen up.

Too late now but, the best way to remove stuck pilot jets is with a left hand drill bit. It will remove them every time. I just sourced a set of mik 34's and the one pilot slot for the screwdriver was really messed up. The LH drill bit cranked it right out.

@clegg is a left hand drill bit the same as this or actually different (see photo). I broke off this in it.

@amc49 the jets did have a flathead slot on them, the metal is just so soft they stripped instantly.

The piece I see that's all chewed up are just the covers to the pilot jets. Don't drill too far past them or you'll get into the jet itself, the covers are just short screws with a metal gasket under them. They are maybe 8-10 mm in length overall.

I'd take a thin cut off wheel and try to make a new screw driver slot 90 degrees from the old slot. You could try a hack saw blade to cut new slot but I think the thing that's broke off in there is too hard. Then get an impact driver with a slotted bit and heat the area up a bit with a torch before trying to knock them loose.
