hello xs400 community. I am Martin and I am restoring an xs400 from 1978-1980. Currently I don't understand how to remove the swingarm from the frame. I have everything loose (as far as I know) but do not understand how to proceed. The two added images show my progress. I also want to paint or powder coat the frame and swingarm. Tips for this are also welcome.

cheers, Martin

If you screw the nut on the end and tap it with a block you wont mess up the threads. It should just slide out any how. Make sure to put a grease fitting on the other side so the bushings are lubed. A wooden dowel and some taps with a rubber mallet will also work.

Thanks. Will give it a try

greased both ends, heated a little bit but no movement. That's pretty stuck in place. Will try to heat it up some more and see if that will do the trick.

The pivot bolt has rusted to the inner sleeve inside the swing arm, meaning it will still pivot but is locked in place. A bigger hammer or a hydraulic press is needed to move the bolt. Perhaps drill some small holes near where the sleeve would be in the swing arm to squirt some penetration oil in to help. Good luck!

Spray some WD40 on both ends to let it soak overnight into the shaft/bushing interface, THEN pound on it. It will come loose. Like said a piece of 2X4 will work to absorb shock until the part begins to move. A baby sledge with 5 lb. head will work better than a small hammer.
