Stator wires

So, one of my stator wires under the sprocket cover is mostly broken, and it's in an annoying spot close to the motor.

I stripped the oil-filled and hardened sheath, but it still looks like it's going to be a PITA to splice. Plus the braiding over the insulation on the wires is looking kinda rotted.

Is there something special about those wires, or can I just replace them with normal new wire?
 
Normal wire, just keep the gauge the same. If you have to get into the deeper part of stator you can use normal epoxy to cover the wire.
 
Usually the stator is removed from the casing for rewiring. Can replace right at the stator connection inside.
Drewpy's rewire thread gets into stator rewiring.
