Just as the title states, I did a sprocket change, went up one tooth for more top speed, and installed an o-ring chain!

...unfortunately it still is not entirely to my liking. I am still craving more power out of this bike. Anyone got any ideas?

I was thinking pod filters, new jets, and maybe an exhaust system.

Open to ideas!

FYI. if you do not have direct lift carbs then pods typically KILL top end, they do not lift the slides wide open commonly in high gear and even worse on small engines like this one.

More power/torque would be a larger rear sprocket smaller front sprocket. But with what you have done is to drop rpms for more top speed. Your limited to how much power and torque the bike has. Most aftermarket exhaust systems are not going to help with overall power and may even hurt it as they are not tuned for these bikes just made to fit. Making sure the bike is tuned well or even a dyno tune is your best bet with these. Dropping weight on yourself and the bike can also help.

It's a 4 stroke, and needs all kinds of parts to make more power and lucky to get to 50 there. If it was a 2 stroke a simple grinder all that's needed besides expansion chambers. I got well over 60 hp. out of a 400 once. And that bike ran easily over 100 mph when it was stock. My CB550F just pulls even on that.

Craving more power... that might not be the point of an XS400. You can get a few HP out of getting the engine in tune, losing a few pounds here and there but the quest for power on a 400 can get expensive quickly!

That being said, more "power" to you!
