This is my first bike guys and I’m really excited to start getting things working.

I’m planning on taking my time and doing a restoration with it over the winter.
Bought it from previous owner who let it sit with it on, and gas in the tanks. It won’t start and im pretty sure I just need to clean the tank, run some sea foam, and rebuild the carbs.

I’d appreciate any help from all of you guys who have had more experience. This would be my first time working on a bike and I’m pretty stoked.
 
My first question I’m trying to tackle is what rebuild kit should I use. It seems like http://m.siriusconinc.com/ is the place to get it but I’m not sure which one I need, I couldn’t find any Yamaha options or maybe I’m rushing. (currently at work)

Could anyone help me out?

I believe I might have found what I needed but the year is off. I'll keep searching for a little, and then check compatibility. part YAMAHA XS400 KEYSTER CARB KIT 1977
 
Most often you can just replace the rubber bits in the carbs and save a lot of money. Make sure to use real mikuni jets as the aftermarket ones are usually off on sizes and quality is poor. The 80-82 sohc xs400 uses the same bs34 carbs as the 80-84 xs650 for rebuild kits. Only air jets, slide needles and needle jets are different in size. All else is the same. Parts for those are very plentiful. You can always search OEM part numbers and find the high quality yamama stuff. https://www.babbittsonline.com/yamaha-parts Good site for part numbers.

Alright guys, I found a really good piece of information that helped me understand carburetors in general.
