Just bought a '77 XS360. Not quite a basket case but...

Before and after (final wet sand and polish aren't done yet)

You probably are already aware but you need to strip off all the paint where the fuel filler cap seats on the neck. Gas fumes will soften and propagate under the clear and lift the finish if it's left painted and clearcoated.

Yes, and I appreciate it just the same. There's bound to be somebody who'll benefit from that info.

I own this exact bike right now. Bought it and a 81 xs400 off a guy in Ohio. 400 is clean for the age and the 360 still needs finished. Crazy I stumbled across this thread.

Someone was gonna cafe it and never got to finish. Gonna hopefully get it welded up in the next couple weeks. In the meantime I’ve gotta get it all assembled and see what I have and don’t have and go from there. Bike came with wheels and a motor with the rest in boxes.

Yep. That's the one. I had to have major surgery and was no longer able to work on the bike so I sold the whole shebang to a guy in Ohio...probably the same person who sold it to you. Hope you have good luck with it. Disappointing that I couldn't keep it going, but it was a lot of fun while it lasted.

Sorry to hear about your health hope all is okay now. The kid I bought it from did say something about surgery and having to slide the motor in with a board. I actually went to buy the 400 and seen the 360 sitting next to it and bought both off him. The 400 I’m gonna keep stock since it’s in amazing shape for being 40 years old and the 360 I’m gonna finish the cafe build. I have no plans on selling them so I will keep you posted on the 360 progress so you can still see it brought back to life.

Doing much better but can't ride motorcycles any more so that sucks. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the bikes. Happy wrenching!
