I am just pissed but I need your help. So I broke one of the valve inspection caps on accident. So I went on CMSNL and looked up a diagram to find which part I need to find and purchase. Well on the website, for a xs400 1982 Heritage, part 15 is the product number (1H21118600). So I found one on eBay and it just came in today. Well its to big. The diameter of the outer threads is sitting at about 33.7mm while the one on my bike is 31.3mm. The actual cap itself is bigger to. Do some digging, turns out this cap is for a XT. Dont know why they label it that it will work, but it doesn't. The problem I have now is I dont know the part number I need now. Checked some of the other years numbers and the only other one I found was (1L91118600), thats suppose to fit the 79's. Ive checked mikes and well and still nothing.

Ive uploaded some photos. The one on the right is what is on my bike now, they all are the same caps. The left one is the (1H21118600) XT cap I bought. I also provided a screenshot of the (1L91118600) cap that kind of looks similar in the 1st photo. FYI, my original cap is more rounded on the cap portion and measures 41.6mm at the widest diameter.

It might help if you remind us what bike you have (year, number of cams, anything else).

I can tell you that the caps on my '81 SOHC 400 are 31.75mm across the threads. That doesn't sound close to either of the ones you have.

Its a SOHC 1982 XS400 Heritage Special. I have resorted to using the god forbidden JB Weld. I let it dry for a couple days but it broke again once it was turned a little past finger tight. Im going to try again but just go to town on the inside surface scuffing it up to see if that helps. Once its done drying, illl just get it just past finger tight as I dont believe there is any compression its really holding back and it only has to be tight enough that the little bit of oil up there doesn't leak out.

Ya now im just confused. I just looked at Yamaha Parts House and its the same thing on there as well. The cap is listed as (1H21118600). But they also only have the heritage special under the 1981 list.

Order the 1981 400H part 1L9-11186-00-00, it is only $15 and change at Partzilla, and it is probably what you need.
